While I was dreaming at a landie dealer the other day I had a look underneath a new 110 and 130 and found that they had a rover diff fitted in place of the salisbury. How does this effect the carrying capacity, the 130 in particular?

Has any one got one of these defenders?

Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

An old post which I found, whilst trolling thru the archives, but since it was all alone by it's lonesome, I thought I'd put in my two bobs worth! 8)

Yes, the Salisbury diff is gone for the 2003 MY Defender 110, and the Defender 90 also sports the Rover diff.

But the carrying capacity hasn't changed.

I personally think that the Salisbury diffs are stronger than the newer Rover diffs, but the Rover diffs have much better clearance if you drive thru deep ruts.

So it's a trade off, really. I'd go Salisbury if I were the touring type (long distance) but if I were doing the weekend warrior heroics thru the muddy state forests, I can only allow myself a Rover diff coz the Salisbury just hangs down too low.

It can be fixed though. This guy did it, and doesn't look that difficult really. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

If you want the ground clearance on your existing Salisbury...fetch the grinder dear, I'm just going to have a go at this... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Great reference link, Paul!

Seems like a push over - I'll just whip out the grinder and have a go myself! 8O  Still, got to give them credit for the finished product.

Cheers,

Hi Lawrance

Yes, it's a good web site that one. I really like that guy's style. He's now got a Salisbury for the front as well! 8O That'll be one tough Ibex when it's finished (again).

How do you know where the 110's have been if they no longer leave a trench down the middle of the track
