Hey Guys,

I have a 96 D1 5speed v8 that I'm trying to adjust the handbrake on, the only problem is there doesn't seem to be anywhere on the back of the drum to adjust the shoes. The cable goes in one side and there is the drain plug at the bottom but other than an electrical plug it is completely smooth all the way round the back of the drum. My manual states that there should be an adjuster there and an adjustment under the center console for the cable which i have tightened.

Had an 84 rangie that had the adjuster that stuck out the back of the drum so i assumed it was like that.

anyway if someone could tell me what I need to be looking for that would be sweet!

The adjuster is on the front of the drum
Between the t case and the handbrake drum.
17mm if I remember correctly

that's not a drain plug, that is the adjuster.

can also take the slack out of the cable from inside the cab, but outside to adjust the shoes

Back the cable off to where it was before you fiddled with it or all you will succeed in doing is wearing out the shoes

Robert61. I see you haven't posted much before. So to help generally, first do a search for Tie Rod Ends, or the subject of your choice. Then if you don't find your answer, start a new thread. By putting an unrelated question under a different subject, you may not get the answer you need. Off hand I don't remember how many left and rights you need. Good luck.

Hi Rob,

Looks like you need 2 x R/H (RTC5869) & 1 x L/H (RTC5870). The pitman arm ball joint is a kit that is installed into the arm. I did mine about 6 months ago & got greasable ball joints out of England as I couldn't find any on-line suppliers in Oz that had the greasable joints. At the time, the landed price was about the same as what the sealed joints were selling for here.

Try Roverlord on here, he has greaseable tie rod ends and excellent service.
