sooooo......

just got this..

All I know so far is the history of the vehicle it has had with the last owner. Was last running 10 years ago apparently.

its fairly straight. good body. Original motor I was told. It's got a 'six' badge on the grille so I take it its the 2.6L 6 cyl. has a tropical roof and has hoops for the tub.

Hey Paul, now you have a Series 2a to keep the Series 12 company like me.:)
Nice truck, look forward to watching the rebuild.
Cheers Ian

That casuarina foliage really adds to the effect of the LR wiring.

That doesn't look bad at all. You don't see too many of the ashtrays anymore and the tropical roof for the ute cabs are relatively rare. Doesn't seem to be much or any of the usual rust streaks from the bulkhead or door frames.
Have fun with it.:)

younger brother james being busy again lol

so it is indeed a 6 cylinder. its pretty much all original and all complete. At this point the motor is seized tohugh. I could not turn the crank handle nor the fan... we tried to remove a spark plug and it split it in half. (lol)but all the bits are there... Rick has told me he has a 6 cyl head which i can use to rebuild this. hopefully its not TOO much work.

Apart from that its in great nick. NO RUST!!!

has ashtray, tropical roof, has the locks for the rear windows, original tyre holder and has a heater as well. Body needs some aligning really. I figure if it was running all I would really change is fix the cracked tail light, get a straight tail gate, get door hinges and away it would go. Wouldn't change a thing I think. Will prbably just get a canvas cover for the hoops.

G'day LoveB,
Nice find!

Is there any chance of posting a photo close-up of the edge of the troppy roof please?

I am planning to make a tropical roof for my S3 out of an old full-roof, but I need to know what shape it is,

Cheers Charlie

We (Rick) organised the head for you today so we should be able to pick it up next Saturday. I believe it is still attached to the engine so I'll give Rick a hand to take it off - I'll take some cloth and cardboard with me so I can put it in the back of one of the cars - it will be in Canberra next Sunday night - either at my place or Ricks.

is it really a six cylinder engine?
picture three in the original post shows the distributor cap, and unless I am mistaken, there are only four spark plug wires ?

other than that, great looking truck, should be a good project.

There are four spark plugs in clear view, another lead can be seen behind the distributor, and No 5 is behind the distributor. The SU carburetter and the IOE valve layout make it instantly recognisable as a six.

My apology, I figured out my mistake, I could only see 4 leads on the dissy, one is the coil!
So yep my mistake, sorry.

Vehicle No. 47662235; Engine no. 47108910; PTO (fitted with centre Power Take Off); Key 558; supplied to Winchcombe Carson (probably for a customer) by Grenville Motors on 27.8.54. Not registered in Sydney like your other one so no registration plate details.
Probably passed on to the Mulbring BFB in later life.

Yowza!!! That's a lot of detail though. I take it winchcombe Carson is a company? Or is that the first owner?

Winchcombe Carson & Co and later Winchcombe Carson Ltd were woolbrokers and pastoralists, so likely it was for one of their properties or a customer. Quite a few vehicles went to them, some have added Yass, Harden, etc. - either a property or office, Stock & Station Agency or the like. Ask around the town.

There is a book about the company apparently:
A brief history of Winchcombe Carson Limited / compiled by Bruce Carberry, Blayney. - Version details - Trove (http://trove.nla.gov.au/work/7844138?q&versionId=9043537)

Archives:

Winchcombe, Carson Limited - ANU Archives (http://archivescollection.anu.edu.au/index.php/winchcombe-carson-limited)

The name is still around as Winchcombe Carson Financial Planning, owned by IOOF. Google it.

Hello from Brisbane.

Thought it might have been government issue.

When I saw the original photos that you posted I thought it might have once belonged to the Plague Locust Commission - basically a Federal Government outfit that operated across the cereal belt locating and spraying locust swarms.

I remember seeing a couple of PLC trucks in Canberra when they were new (late 70s) and they had the tropical roof and 3/4 canvas canopy. They were a very light green/cream colour which was also available for minis and probably a few other Leyland models at the time.

Cheers,

damzy
