Baby seat problems

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I wasnt sure where to put it. My inlaws have just bought a 110 series about 6 months ago. their intention was to use it as their family car as they have their first child on the way in about 3 weeks. when they bought it landrover told them they would just have to get anchor points installed in the rear of the car to fit a baby seat. this turned 0out to be a lie as it cant be done. they have taken it to acredited places and the only way they can do it is to remove the plastics in the back and fit a bar above the rear seat which means they cant fold the seats down to fit larger items in the car. This isnt and option.

Is there any other way of doing it. At the moment they have resigned to the fact they will have to sell it and get something else.

Personally I think the whole thing is pretty un ethical by land rover for not telling them

It can be done and there are many threads covering the details. No need to sell the truck!

Most common way is to get a crab bar installed however some folks get the seats modified and install the restraint in the back.

As iClick has posted it can be done easily, and the crab bar set-up isn't the only way to do it. Even if they go with the crab bar it can easily be removed in a couple of minutes by taking out two bolts, so you could still use all the cargo area with the seat folded down (that's if you dont have the baby in the baby seat of course). The kids will love driving in the Landy over any other vehicle (mine do) so I'd say the Landy's definitely a keeper.

If landrover dealer told them you can fit baby seat take the car & the baby seat. to the dealer and politely ask them to fit it for them.

Thanks for the links Ive read through them. seems like victoria is the problem. they dont want to put a crab bar in because they have to cut the plastics for the interior and they dont want to have to unbolt it every time they want to lay the seats down to carry something. It seems as if other states you can simply have an engineering place remove the tie down points and replace them with reinforced restraint points but it seems as if this cant be done in victoria.

I missed that. I think the first time I saw it the pictures wouldnt work for me. I wonder if it is legal and cirtified in victoria

If you are in Melbourne, there is an acrredited child restraint installer in Belgrave who will install retraint points in the floor behind the seats for a couple of hundred. I've had them installed in this location with full engineering certification, so it's safe. And as they are vicroads accredited then it's legal.
