Hi all. I'm just wondering if any one can tell me if it is possible to disassemble the Defender mirror arms. I extended my arms a couple of years ago for towing but now find one is starting to wear and is jamming when I fold it in and out, I have spare arms but I am hopping to not have to cut and lengthen another one.
   Cheers Dave

I seem to recall there is a rubber cap on the arm pivot, and you can pop this off and lubricate.

Not that it is what you are asking, but you can get long Defender mirror arms.

Thanks Bilbo & Lotz-a-landies. I did know you can buy the long arms but the price is a bit off putting. just not sure at the moment how Land Rover have assembled these things, it looks a bit like they might have presed it all togther and then flared the centre shaft.

Hi,
I have the long arm mirrors so I can see past the slide-on on the back of the ute.
I need to pull them apart to try and increase the spring pressure to stop them (both) blowing back with the draught from highway trucks.
cheers

Although I did not manage to seperate the center shaft I did find there is what I believe to be a 10mm hexigan socket in it which can be accessed by puting the Key up center from underneath after the ruber plug at the top is prised out.

Hi,
had a close look at my old mirror arms and I don't think they can be dissembled. It looks like some sort of a crimping has been used.
However I think I can solve the problem of not being able to adjust the spring tension by putting a bolt through the hollow shaft, and using a bit of rubber as a spacer before a pair of nuts locked on the thread.
Its got to be better than the cable ties I used in frustration coming back down the Newel Highway recently.
cheers
