I need front and rear doing (discs are apparently ok). OEM pads (fitted) from dealer was quoted $800 and about $500 for aftermarket 'A rated' pads done by an independent. Is there any significant difference that I should be paying the extra for OEM? Will it cause any issues with warranty?

It's not a huge saving $wise in the grand scheme of things but has been an expensive service in terms of action items so just paying a bit more attention as to whether the dealer represents good value or not.

Couldn't find a huge amount of info on pros/ cons of OEM vs aftermarket but seems that many use them.

Cheers
Darren

I just had front and rears changed by Jordan Rovertech......the brakes feel much better than the factory pads.
$550 all up installed.
49000km.
Fronts were still ok, but as I am heading on a 10000km trip at Christmas, best to replace all four now.
I did not even check the brand....which is unusual for me.

I got my D4 brakes (front and rear) done by Jorden Rovertech before my trip to Cape York last year. After more than 50,000km including my trip to Darwin and Central Australia this year they are still going strong and braking is brilliant. I also don't know what pads were fitted but I certainly don't have any complaints.

Is the D4 a very early one with aluminium rear calipers? IIRC the genuine pads for those are more expensive than for the cast iron calipers fitted to slightly later D4s or early ones retrofitted with cast iron calipers. However the pads are indeed interchangeable (I currently have pads for ali calipers fitted to cast iron calipers) as they only have a different pad material shape so the non-OEMs may not differentiate between the calipers. I prefer the aluminium caliper pads because they have a rectangular block of pad material whereas the others are pointed front and back which wears the discs more in the centre of the contact area which then means that new pads don't initially sit flat, having to bridge a depression.

Thanks guys - I'll give Rovertech a ring and find out. At that price I reckon they would be aftermarket but glad you seem to have had good feedback on them. Mine have only done 40k and apparently they are 95% shot on rear and 90% on front. Am usually fairly careful with brakes but could have been the precious owner.....

Graeme - it's a 2011 and looks like they are cast iron calipers.

Thanks
