Not too shabby there Gaz. I've seen that Rangie before back in the Mid 90's when I was looking to buy my first Rangie, the paint scheme isn't hard to forget. Wasn't a bad unit just I remember it didn't have power steering and it was nearly $8K back then too :eek::eek:

Interesting the two doors. The word is they are going up in value.
More recently, the two door Range Rover has begun to be appreciated and values have begun to rise. The challenge is to find early, unmolested cars. The most desirable models (up to about 1973), lack the black vinyl rear pillar that has long been a Rover (and Range Rover) signature. The early cars also had body-coloured front and centre pillars. It was only in the mid 1970s that the Range Rover went to its “floating roof” look that has been a styling feature since. The early cars lacked a rear wiper and the tiny “coffin lids” that covered the corners of the flimsy and extremely rust-prone upper tailgate at the rear. It is these cars that are now rapidly appreciating. The run of the mill four door classic remains in the price range where they are being used by tradesmen and others, but are not normally collectible.
Range Rover two door – a “classic” in every sense @ The Classic Motorist (http://classicmotorist.com.au/range-rover-2-door/)
I see this one has the body coloured pillars, but the back pillar is black and it has a rear wiper. Is this a '74 then?

They had colour coded pillars up til 74, early example are rare as rocking horse **** in Aus. as they were only imported from 1972. The a and b pillars were still body colour til about 82 when the they painted them back a-la 4 door models. Early models are distinguishable by the diff lock button which has the light in the button as on later models they're on the dash which is more common set up. Later 2 door models also had the one-piece aluminium side window frame (not the tailgate) an improvement on the earlier rust prone 3 piece unit that falls apart when you try to dismantle it :(

Hard to get pre-74 but any 2 door Rangie classic is becoming a bit of a hard find without rust (don't look I QLD, most are rooted with rust after plenty of trips to Straddie and Fraser, etc..).

This one is a 78 model which has spent a lot of time on the beach, the price was right but it will need extensive rust repairs.
Other than that it is straight and mostly complete/original.
I won't be starting any work on it for a while, too many jobs on the go this year.

Cheeky has been muttering on lately that she has been feeling some disturbances in the force.
She has always been a bit paranoid since Darth Torquit pointed his Range Rover at her from over the hill and made her swivel housing leak.
For those who are new to the forum, Cheeky my D1, has for a long time, been relating her theories about how Range Rovers are wicked; and corrupt anybody who drives one, turning them into an evil Darth Lord bent on ridding the galaxy of Discoveries with a special focus on D1's
Yes of course I listen to my cars, don't you ????
That winning noise when you turn the steering is your car talking to you, she is saying that she would like some Lucas Stop Leak in her power steering - please.
If you listen closer she will say that it is almost time to fix the leaks.
If you talk back nicely and let her know that her leak has slowed heaps, then she might agree to go further without breaking down.
Any rate, the current moaning began last week when we went over to Cheeky's friends place. We pulled up in the drive way and Cheeky announced that she felt a cold shiver, like all the D1's had suddenly cried out in pain and were silenced.
Cheeky called out over the fence to Harry's V8 D1 to come out and play - There was no reply - just an eerie silence.
She timidly call out to Harry's other D1,
I looked at her, even thought its a diesel; a D1 is a D1 said Cheeky.
The only reply came from Harry's shortie series 2, who explained to Cheeky that all the D1's don't live here anymore and she thinks they all went to the crusher.... Cheeky was mortified.
The s2 said that she could not come out and play because Harry had not fixed her front diff.
Then Cheeky saw this...
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2013/11/611.jpg (http://s592.photobucket.com/user/Gazbon008/media/20131101_1538511_zpsae2fce7a.jpg.html)
She was inconsolable  :BigCry::BigCry::BigCry::BigCry:
Then she saw this
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2013/11/612.jpg (http://s592.photobucket.com/user/Gazbon008/media/20131102_1344221_zps25fb1859.jpg.html)
Now she is convinced that the Jeeps have formed an alliance with the Range Rovers to destroy D1's
Cheeky has now learned that the109 has been turned; by not only 1 RRC but by 3, his shed is full of them.
The Trip to the AGM did not help, because she was sad missing all her D1 friends. Only stupid fenders and fancy D3 and 4 she kept muttering, I will be the only D1 soon...
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2013/11/613.jpg (http://s592.photobucket.com/user/Gazbon008/media/20131109_133617_zps65757071.jpg.html)
I have tried to console her, I explained to her that Torquit has moved far away to a Pacific Island and can not point a her anymore. She just retorted that there is still Darth Fluffy.
She is worried that there will soon be a Darth 109
Cheeky has been so scared that she spat a uni out of her front drive shaft on the way back from Brisbane on Wednesday and refuses to leave the yard.

Gaz,

You definitely have a way with words mate, I'm still sore from laughing so hard at Cheeky's realisation that D1's are going to the crusher in vast numbers. Won't be long until it's Cheeky's turn I feel.

What a shame, one less D1 on the road I don't think anyone going to miss it

Seems that former D1 owners have become Defender owners from the looks of things, that's okay if you like to be squashed up on the door/B pillar and you cop a feel from the handbrake every time you hit a bump :eek:

Cheeky should not be worried.

Whilst the D3's and D4's may appear be young and fancy, they are still strong in the "force" and, inspired by legends of the D1 knights, willing to continue the fight against the evil RR empire.

Fear not Cheeky..... we will learn and grow stronger in the "force" guided by our D1 masters.
