Finally decided on a 130 crew cab, it suits my requirements more than the 110 wagon does. The question that I have for everyone on here is, there is a nice 130 with a canopy on carpoint for $37,990 but it is a 2007 model with the 2.4l puma, 91,299km, TJM bar, tow bar, long range tank, ARB diff locks front and rear and talking to some people that have 110 defenders they tell me not to buy the puma version, can someone tell me why and what problems do they have?

I have a 2012 110. I think there are problems with every vehicle and new models always receive a harsh reception. I think many issues have been fixed by now.

Check if possible that the service bulletins mentioned on here are complete or relevant.
Problems are rear diff, fuel tank breather, turbo hose, any lift with excessive prop shaft angles, clutch springs, and then the defender idiosyncrasies to top it off such as roof cracks, leaks, heat and an extraordinary turning circle:eek:
So all up I have been happy in 36,000 kms of ownership. :D

I've got a 2011 130 and I'm very happy with it. Search the forums as you'll find many threads regarding the Puma version. Glenn has mentioned a few of the known issues. I'll add that mine leaks through the roof when parked on a uphill angle. Also I've been told by my dealer that the transfer cases aren't really up to spec for long distance high speed driving in hot conditions such as we get here in Aus.

I've done about 30,000km thus far in my 2008 130 and am happy with it. The turning circle is dramatically improved after screwing the steering stops in 1.5 turns. I commute 130km each workday in it. The 130 does make you think twice about where to park.
Check that the ARB difflocks actually work, and don't pump diff oil back up the lines, before buying the vehicle, and I wouldn't pay any more for a vehicle with ARB lockers than for one without, even though most sellers will want to get the money back on them.
