Hi Leroy,
I have used tregg hitches for many years, but I have now been converted to the Hyland hitch. In my situation I am always towing different trailers and find the convenience of the Hyland suits my needs. The only point with the Hyland is you need a 3.5 t ball with a raised shank. Cheers Rob.

I should probably add, price also, as I am on a very tight budget for this trailer. and most of the hitches I look at cost more than more entire budget :S

I have one of these...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Off-Road-Coupling-2-Tonne-Fixed-Hitch-Camper-Caravan-Trailer-Parts-RV-50mm-/120788116596?pt=AU_product_Trailer_Parts&hash=item1c1f886474

the advantages are that it is an off-road coupling that fits a standard towball and that it is very simple to connect trailer to vehicle (no tools required)

McHitch. McHitch.com.au - Uniglide Trailer Coupling (http://mchitch.com.au/)

Replaced our Trigg hitch with the McHitch, seems pretty good, well made, yet to use it though.

Good old fashioned pintle hook for me.:). Despite what people told me, it makes very little noise if the trailer is loaded properly, and is a snap to hitch - unlike some. Cons - it can be noisy on rough terrain, but I think I have got a solution or that - it only bangs when the hitch moves upwards - over bumps and the like. No noise on the road at all. Gluing a small plastic insert in the top of the hitch should sort that I would think, but it isn't a huge bother.

Not many use these any more, so the chance of theft would be reduced too.:)

My camper trailer came with a Chinese knock off of the Treg hitch. It has been to the Cape and back and done several thousand kilometres on top of that. The through shaft is just showing a bit of wear but that takes up when the unit is greased. I'm not promoting cheap Chinese products, just commenting that they aren't ALL bad.

Pintle Hook ? Aarrgghhh I hate them - the way you can pivot the hook in the ring when reversing without actually getting any direction change (is when not pushing)makes reversing a PITA !

DId that make sense? Probably not. ANyway Im not a fan.

If I ever get another trailer I'll look into those DO35 thingies....

I have a poly block hitch. It is a Trigg coupling on the trailer with the Tregg on the car tow tongue.

I get a noise from the poly block rubbing on the car part of the hitch when doing slow tight turns. It is loud enough to hear with the windows up. So I wouldn't say they are quiet but there is no metal to metal noise.

I wouldn't get another one. Plenty of others to try.

Never had that issue either. The trailer being very short and narrower than the 101 causes my reversing issues - not the pintle. Did you have both the hook and hitch set to rotate by any chance - that may cause it. Either the hitch OR he hook need to rotate - not both.

best if the pintle hook on the vehicle rotates; not the lunette ring on the trailer.

I have a pintle and lunette. Both were rotating and I had a few minor issues. All solved now. I worked out how to stop the lunette rotating.

I wouldn't recommend it unless it suits your purpose. Being ex-military, they can be expensive (but they can also be cheap if you have your eye out for a bargain).

I think there are better civy ones out on the market. I was looking at a Tregg on the weekend. The owner was very happy with it. He made hitching his camper look so easy but, then again, he had had a lot of experience with it.

If you are thinking about the Treg coupling for your trailer, I'd suggest you get the Trigg hitch to fit to the 4WD.

Here is a link to the Trigg Bros website, they do Pintle hitches as well.
