The light for the rear license plate on the Defender is cactus !
Rather than replace it with a genuine (or copy) item - I was wondering if there are any alternative solutions.
Ideally a number plate frame with a couple of smaller subtler built in lights ?
There are a few on ebay US BUT they aren;t the right dimensions to suit Aussie plates.

you can connect a short string of 3 led lights to the existing wires

Usurping Ron's role, I should perhaps point out that license plates are not used in this country - we use number plates. And spell the word licence anyway when it is a noun or an adjective.

WA would beg to differ on your first point:

Vlad, you will find a lot of people on this site who resist what I call "cultural colonisation" by the USA via their entertainment industry. Apparently someone in the W.A. Dept. of Transport is unable to resist that influence.
BRITISH cars have number plates, old boy.
In answer to your question, have you looked at number plate lights for motorcycles, or maybe go "retro" with a couple of '50s style Lucas number plate lights?
Maybe something like Ebay item number 221151632786...https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2013/11/1266.jpg

Vlad :)
Paint the inside of them white :) or you could glue some silver oven wrap inside them,I have one of those as original fitment on both my 2a (the originals had 2 bulbs 12v-5watt) and the S3 Lightweight, both give good illumination of the standard Qld plate, the 2a is old style white numbers on black,= OLR-068 and the S3 is Maroon on White reflective, both readable at 50 metres+
Narva do one in the original Lucas style in chrome lookalike P/n 86060 there could also be a black one, it depends on what you want to fit it to,if a trailer you have a wider choice, but to a Defender it is the Lucas type,to a Aussie bodied 130 you could use one of several different types, pop down to your local REPCO and ask for a look in their Narva Catalogue, and on page 272 will be the listing,(I have a cattle dog)
Any of the Festoon globes can be substituted for LED's, I have replaced all my interior lights in the Rangie and Disco 1 with LEDs from Incisor's shop, brighter, and next to no power draw, WARNING:can not use as Stop/Tail when fitted with Cruise Control, not enough draw to disengage Cruise

I got some nice LED ones for the trailers. They're small, bright and cheap.

WA people are just plain odd. They've never been happy since federation.

PLEASE....PLEASE....can we call it a registration plate or rego for short.....License plates are American.....we are having enough problems with our national identity. A license doesn't allow your car to be driven on roads, registration does. I'm not being pedantic, I'm being fair dinkum.

Except the verification of rego is (at least still in Qld) a registration STICKER not the plate. The plate is a vehicle identifier.
So really NUMBER plate would probably be best...

Vlad, they've done away with rego stickers here in NSW. It's most inconvenient.

My missus says the same thing. Easy to forget when teh rego is due with no reminder sticker there. Perhaps the Dept of Transport ought to offer a little 'reminder' sticker (like you get when you get a car serviced) for the inside of the windscreen.
The lack of a requirement for displaying a rego sticker is a BOON for motorcycles though - where there is often nowher to display opne which doesn't make the bike uglier.....

Federation is what the West Australians did when the Nu Zulendars didn't.

We get a personal letter from RMS at rego time, I don't think I've ever looked at the sticker to see when it was due. :D:D

I thought New Zealand was part of Federation... There's more Kiwis in Brisbane than Tauranga...
WA is one of the reasons why federation didn't work in 1897.
