If anyone hasnt caught this tv series yet its about families that take a year or more off to travel to far flung corners of the globe.
Last weeks episode was a about a family ( 2 adults , 2 kids aged 2 & 4) that sailed a 40ft Cat from Isle of Wight UK across the Atlantic to the Carribean then down to the Pacific to Polynesia where they nearly died from eating a poisonous fish and then on to Sydney.

Last night was about another British family of 2 adults and 3 kids ( 7,11,13 ) that flew to Capetown and bought a kitted out 100 series LC with camper trailer to drive across Africa over 12 months.
In the first week the dad misread a GPS route and rolled the LC writing it off and nearly killing his family in Namibia just after visiting Fish river Canyon.
They were uninsured so had to buy another 100 LC in Windhoek and swap the parts over my the damaged vehicle to the new one.
After numerous breakdowns over 9 months the kids had had enough of Africa and wanted to go home. While heading to a large town for repairs in Ethiopia they broke down again but after 3 days a couple in a Defender came to the rescue :).

My folks rang and told me I should watch this.. We're planning a overland trip to the U.K. with our kids when they're 9 & 10. The oldies do occasionally question our sanity undertaking such an adventure. They forget it was the year long trip around Australia when I was young that inspired me to do something similar. Our trip is just a little more ambitious!

They didn't tell me the synopsis of the programme but from loanrangie's post it sounds like the family runs into a bit of strife. It sounds like like my parents are recommending I watch this to put a bit of fear into me

I've searched Iview and it doesn't appear to be available for catch-up. I've also scoured the 'alternative' sources on the net and it's strangely absent from those as well.

If anyone finds a way of viewing the programme, please let me know :p

I managed to track down a copy. It's very uncomfortable to watch - I cringed the entire way through! So many poor decisions were made. I'm surprised they got as far as they did without killing themselves.

The dad seemed to be reasonably competent on the tools but was completely lacking in any common sense!

It's worth watching as it re-enforces what NOT to do when travelling in remote locations (or when it comes to this family, just going down the road!)

If anyones interested to seeing the episode, PM me and I'll send you a link :)
