My cousin is putting a GMC 6.3 l V8 diesel engine in his 110 County.

It weighs about 260 kgs replacing the 120 kg (approx) Rover 3.5l V8 Petrol.

He has been trying to find out the mass of the Tdi and the County Isuzu diesels get some idea of the duty of coil springs to put under the front.

Needless to say his call to LRA resulted in bemused silence.

Has any one access to this highly sensitive information.

I'd be interested to hear how it goes when (if) it gets done. Sorry, i've got no technical info for you.

Yep its a big mother.

Interestingly (and I am after any answers to the post) it seems following a search that the 200Tdi unofficially weighs in at about 250 kgs.

The conversion is heroic by my standards but not daunting by his. It actually started as a Series 111 conversion. If the gory details were revealed it could be the longest post in history: a liturgy of trial and error, changing regulations and opportunities lost and found.

I help out occasionally (the rear axle swap last weekend). I should be documenting this transformation as his ghost writer.

But you have to love the robustness of the land-rover. Its relatively easy to work on and modify (Hybridise).

Those NSW folks attending the Wollondilly get together may get to quiz him first hand as he and his wife are keen to come. (They are not internet connected so I keep him abreast of what happens on this forum.)

Just consulted the Isuzu workshop manual for the 4BD1 as used in the County.
It shows a dry weight of 322.5kg.
It's a big lump, Sure made the engine crane work when I lifted it.

He has an I beam with a 5 ton hoist in his shed so he is well set up.

Thanks for the greeting.

I have a couple of Landies.
I have a Stage 1 with the Isuzu donk.
It's very original in condition, had it for years, and has been pretty much faultless.
I recently pulled the engine to do a clutch job on it so I'm giving it a bit of a cleanup.

I love driving the Stage 1 but I live in WA and put in some long trips when I go holidaying.
She's pretty rough and noisey if you spend days on end on the highway so I bought a Defender hardtop as a replacement.
Air, steer, coils etc is great but I couldn't bring myself to part with the Stage 1. The drivability of the engine box combo is hard to beat.

Now I'm thinking long term to maybe put a coil chassis under the Stage 1 with a few refinements like air.

Time to do it all is the problem.

My brother is returning from France to work with the CSIRO in Perth on a fisheries research exercise. (He is a Biologist /Geneticist...a dark mystery to me).

He mentioned something about buying a Tojo..I pointed out his genetic disposition to Land Rovers (we have 3 in the family.. a strong statistical base).

I may need to point him in the direction of assistance when purchasing the right 4wd when he has unpacked. Apparently the CSIRO won't be providing him with a D90 as part of his package :cry:
