SIII snorkel and air filter

Anyone got any ideas on putting together a snorkel for a '73 SIII with a holden 3.3?

It will preferably also be the "outlet" for the axle/diff breathers (see seperate thread) and run a finer-filter-type element, so I also need help on suitable air boxes.

Ideas?

seen heaps made out of 3" aluminium tube and rubbers from truck spare parts joints.

a donaldson filter and precleaner would have to be way more effective than a snorkel on a petrol unit doing work in dirty conditions IMHO, or are you after pose value?

Despite all the thinking I've done on Sandie I never quite reached thinking of a '73 SIII and pose value in the same sentence!

The properties we have access to are dusty and also often carry very high grasses so I'm thinking higher cleaner air might best come via a snorkel. Also fully expect young Dan will "test" the capabilities of Sandie a bit more than my older, more sensible and experienced self might, so reckon a bit of breathing help for water crossings will be a good idea.

a donaldson cleaner mounted on the guard with a snorkle running to the roof would be your best option by far IMHO.

you can drop the precleaner out and get rid of any grass or dust bulid up in 30 secs and it will save you heaps of time cleaning filters etc etc.

I'm not familiar with the Donaldson; presumably it's one of those drum sort of gysmos we see on truck guards(?)

From it does air flow direct to the carby or through a secondary air filter?

Could be a nice solution with the only downside perhaps a bit of reduced visability with the cleaner on the guard

I'm not farmiliar with it either, but I did some searching, and came up with this pic of a Donaldson pre-cleaner

the cleaner itself is about 6" diameter by 12" long and can be fitted under the gaurd or under the bonnet if you dont want it on top of the guard.
