CB radio antenna

I picked up a new 80 channel cb for the 90 yesterday at the Perth 4wd show. I only got a cheap aerial as we mainly use a radio to check with truckies before we pass and wide vehicle pilots. We have lots of long road trains and very wide loads over here.
I want to mount my aerial up on the roof rack to get it as high as possible but I am looking for a way to get the cable inside the cab without drilling holes or running a lead down the side and back up under through the floor. Any ideas or pictures of how you did it appreciated. I may have to stick it on the bulbar and go through the firewall if I cant find a neat way to do it.

You got a snorkel? With a little silicone to keep the dust out ( vital for you by the looks ) it works a treat to pass it down there. There are ways to pass it through a window as well, and no, I don't mean with a drill.

Forgive me if I'm missing the point. :)

Mounting the aerial on the roof might give you a range advantage but is it worth the effort particularly when working at close range on the road. On the Disco I had a gutter mounted aerial and on the Defender I have a bull bar mounted aerial and in the real world there isn't an appreciable reception advantage of one over the other. In fact the gutter mounted one was a pain when it came to negotiating low hanging trees and car parks.

Try mounting aerial on the bull bar first. The route from there depends on where you mount the head unit. Mine is fixed to the cubby box so the cable runs through the engine compartment then down under the body to beneath the cubby box through the floor to the head unit.

Yep, route as Mahn says, or trough the rubber grommets in the bulkhead behind the speedo if you want to be to the dash / radio area.

I stuffed up the little aerial puling it through the firewall grommet after giving up on the roof mount. I have now bought a 6db aerial on line and will mount on the bull bar. I ended up mounting the receiver in the passenger parcel tray looks neat and my co -pilot can now do the radio calls when passing road trains she likes to wave to them as we go by anyway. I like the coms over here you see a heavy vehicle pilot and you call up " what have you got" the reply comes back "5.5 meters plenty of room "or "8.6meters better pull over " I have seen some amazing sights when two 8 meter wide trucks meet on the Great Northern hwy.
