View Full Version : ACE pump pulley seems I belt ridge out

I had to remove the ACE pump to get to a repair with the pas and Ace pump bracket removed. It's no rocket science to refit every thing.
But I shredded a fan belt length ways yesterday. So on fitting the new belt and aligning it on the pulley grooves, the belt wants to sit one ridge further in on the pulley. visually the Ace pulley is out of alignment with the rest of the system.
The pulley is fitted correctly with the words front to the front, I wonder if the pulley flange as moved out on the pump shaft? and if it has can it be pressed back further without damage, or are they a throw away.
The pump makes no noises.

Apologies Incorrectly said Ace pump, it should have read PAS pump.
I figured out what my bother is, when the fan belt shredded, part of the belt got wound on to the pump shaft, at 100kph when it happened there must have been enough force on the pulley and pump shaft for the belt to push out the flange on sheft as today on investigation I can see the belt jammed in between the pump shaft and flange. It has damaged the seal , but is hard to remove. I'll try to use a puller on the flange to increase the gap then try and repress it back in.

New PAS pump is not that expensive - I just replaced mine as it was leaking on the join in the casing. You said yours is not leaking, but if it was, it is a throwaway item. Not sure of the feasability of moving the pulley in & out. Best case it works, worst case it starts leaking & you have to replace it anyway

I removed the P.A.S pump and used a 3 legged puller to ease the flange off a bit more. Then removed the belt fragments that were jammed. I then pressed the flange back and refitted back to vehicle, everything lines up now and is running as it should.
I still can't believe a belt reeling on that small area could apply enough force to push out the flange. Unless the flange had come loose itself and when the belt went it wound it self on there.
