If that's the case Chucky, please explain to me why the 14 th or 16th cause of death in this country merits so much attention. Suicide and heart attack claim more lives in Australia yet the government pay scant regard to those.

It's a mantra that brainwashes the true believers.
What's being done about "old age" I ask? Debilitating for some and most cases end in death.

Aah! November to Feb :D yup! as our gallant Premier "Can Almost Do" has similar ideas,"Road Safety" he's thinking about lowering the speed tolerance even more,(Speedo Error) it will be very interesting when some of these cases get to court, particularly if the "Offender" has the legal/monetary nouse to fight it.

Indeed...lower the speed tolerance, raise more revenue then outsource the speed detection on the basis of the increased revenue ... means the business is worth more so the winning tender then has to recoup revenue and pay a hefty licence fee to the Govt and make a profit... When one thinks about it ...it really is a form of public policy corruption... SWMBO tells me I've developed Grumpy Old Man Syndrome:eek:

EDIT PS: I'm waiting for someone with the energy and $$$ to take "them"on over this ridiculous mantra "Every K over is a killer"... my simple question is where is the actual evidence /validated risk assessment justifying the respective speed limits..
I'm not promoting open speed limits, but I do wonder at instances where an 80km/hr speed limit sign has been planted and then there's a 60 km/hr sign not 50m along further!!!

Mate, my post was with sarcasms, I agree with your view ;)

It's absolute rubbish....makes good P.R....for some.
I've lost count of the number of times I've seen a camera in a 60 zone, only about 100m from an 80 zone, straight road,no intersections, no nothing. The VACC AND the RACV are dead against this sort of stuff, as are many motoring bodies, but it makes ZERO difference.
I've been in contact with my local Liberal member, with whom I get on with very well, and she has conceded "Yes, it does look like revenue raising, I'll take it on board"......Yeah right.
Cheers, Pickles.

How about " every assets sold is a killer". If the government had other ways of making a buck instead of punishing the people we wouldn't have such pathetic rules of all kinds, not just road rules. Soon kids will have to study social rules at school to work out how to comply with life. Suicide, drugs, alcohol, depression and law breaking citizens will only increase if the polies keep focusing on this type of law and order.
I feel we have turned the corner here in Qld. We are on a slippery slide into US style of aggressive policing. Cops can take guns home. Auto's on the way. Not hard for a tired scared family man cop to pull a gun on you due to being on edge from recent legislation. Bikers dont have to have bierds and long hair, or ride a bike to have attitude. Ol mate who is just having a bad day because his about to be done doing 63 in a 60 zone might just go for his licence a bit to quick, and scared copper has a rush of blood.
Might be a worst case, but it started in the US some how, and now the little apple follows.

Actually I have no qualms about the police setting up hundreds ... thousands of breatho buses and "bong" buses..... Line every road in the country with them if you like. I reckon the best thing that happens over holiday breaks is the SES operation coffee breaks. I reckon they would save more lives than all the "$afety Camera$" in the world combined.

Police don't really "do" speeding in Victoria anymore, that's all outsourced to private contractors to park hidden cameras at the bottom of hills to raise the most "$afety" a$ po$$ible.

Yep, the tired old lines getting rolled out again during holiday periods. Those periods which are statistically no more dangerous than at any other time of year ...

Got it in one, Chucaro. Heard the same thing spouted over here on numerous occasions.
