Which direction does a winch pull in?

There's a sticker on the winch saying which way it pulls in, but the wiring turns it the other way

I wired the tjm remote to the same colour wires on the warn solonoids. F1 and F2 are correct because I downloaded the picture from the warn site. But it now winds in from the bottom...
Logic says winching in from the bottom would be best, but the sticker says otherwise.

gotta say it..... if the second photo is with the winch mounted on the vehicle.... it seems that its the wrong way around....

Yeh looks the wrong way round to me. Well compared to the winches I've seen... But I've only seen a few in my life, including mine

Most winches I've seen pull from the bottom too (thought I might just be imagining it); I just don't want to work against the brake.

I'm not fussed about turning the winch around... mmm, might pop into the local 4wd gurus.

Mine pulls from the bottom, with the gearbox and clutch on the right. Most winches I've seen have the handle on the right and the bars have the cutout on that side I believe..... Just assumed that was the standard. But I'd be checking as well, cause my thoughts are purely based on other types of winches so may well be wrong.

Could the plate with the arrow direction sticker simply have been turned around the wrong way at some time out or other?

Sorted out, blond moment. Lamington really, brown on the outside blond in the middle.

Okay...

Didn't think that if I turned the winch around the barrel would rotate the same direction as the sticker and pull from the bottom... hey Sprint..
