I use chrome because it's the only one that works properly for me on this crappy old school laptop (from the Kevin 07 scheme), I also like Firefox, however chrome has really grown on me. The newer I.E. seems rubbish compared to the old, basic browsers of yesteryear, and all the add-ons these days slow it down a lot, same with Firefox I find.
I wonder why your chrome is crashing? Too many naughty websites perhaps? It has never crashed on me.
Cheers

I find Chrome the best and easiest by far, have you tried resetting it as if you had Internet Explorer that would be the first move.

Firefox is the winner!
Everything evolves, and the newer versions are pretty easy get used to... Plus it has awesome plug-ins like adblockers etc.
Chrome stinks because screen calibrators don't work with it, and Explorer is... well... explorer.

Using Linux Fuduntu with Chrome built in. Youtube vids seem to make Chrome crash after a while. Otherwise OK. Rarely use Microsoft these days.

both of them are fine when you need it. Except that maybe the toolbars are the problem. Are they?

To disco gazza, I have Win8 installed to internal hard drive (not my choice but the way the vendor sells the laptop). Linux runs off a USB stick. I have a choice at boot up as to which I want to run. Requires a change to BIOS - normally BIOS will be instructed to go straight to hard drive to look for operating system. The change to BIOS says check USB first for an operating system and if yes then execute, if no then go to hard drive to find an operating system.

Correct. From memory down load the compressed file, in my case using Windows (ironic). Uncompress the file. Copy the ISO file to USB. Unfortunately Fuduntu closed down due to a dwindling user base - but I find it a very clean uncomplicated program - includes a video viewer, word processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, drawing package, screen capture, vid and still handling etc It will also read windows file architecture incase windows falls over and you have not other way to get at your files. No need for virus protection.

Try sites like this
Fuduntu | Free software downloads at SourceForge.net (http://sourceforge.net/projects/fuduntu/)
There are some details on changing the BIOS I skipped over in my previous posts. Earlier laptops only required a change in boot order ie make the BIOS check USB first, for Linux as an example, and if no Linux found then go to hard drive for Windows.
More modern laptops have an additional complexity. My understanding from web reading is that when Win8 came out Microsoft had computer manufacturers set BIOS up to only allow other versions of Windows to be read from USB - as a way of protecting the system...wink, wink. Alternatives to Windows would not be allowed to run. There was an international uproar forcing the inclusion of some other BIOS settings to get around the 'protection' of resident Windows systems. The extra steps required may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Mine is a HP laptop and required from memory two other BIOS changes.
Although I do not understand the processes by which it can happen, it is possible for 'viruses' to lodge in BIOS, but I believe there is also an option to make BIOS read only once you have made your mind up about changes (you can make it write again, if you want to make other changes).
There are other ways of making dual boot systems through disk partitioning, but later versions of Windows, as I understand it, are resistant to changes. XP was I think the best of the last in regard to flexibility - but its been a long time since I tinkered with partitioning for dual boot.
Try reading up on viruses for Windows and Linux (Mac)!

Curious; I changed over from Firefox to Chrome ages ago, and couldn't be happier. As for Internet Exploder; avoid like the plague! Think add on's may well be your problem, or if crashing when you open certain sites, maybe it's a Java issue? Check your Java is up-to-date, and disable any add ons you're not using, or need. Haven't found Skype to be a problem with mine, and been running both for years now.
