View Full Version : Picking a colour for new 110 wagon
loneranger

I currently have a 110 wagon on order for delivery next year. :D The build doesn't start until January and I'm looking for assistance with picking a colour. (I like them all!)
I have ordered it in the Indus Silver but want to look at a Tamar Blue and a Keswick Green wagon to see what they look like. I've looked at the colours on the landrover site and pictures on this forum but they never quite look the same as in the flesh.
I am in the southern suburbs of Perth.
Are there going to be any car shows or get together's in WA where I might be able to view these and other colours. Alternatively is there anyone out there that has these colours that I might be able to organise a meet or driveby to look at.
Is the Keswick Green the same as the green used in the TD5 defenders or was that a different colour?
Thanks :)

I saw a Dark Blue 90 in Melb a few months ago,, damn it made it look hot ;)
It was similar to the Blue to that on the D2's.

Not sure really how the "nice" colours end up after a while though, scratches and other marks way well take their toll to a good coloured paint job.
The lighter colours, White, Silver etc, seem to hold up well, but I guess it depends a lot on what you end up doing with your car.

Hopefully you'll get to see them all in the flesh before you have to make your decision.

I picked the Orkney grey and sprayed the fenders and front grill black and looks awesome. The grey hides the scratches to some extend which will not be the case with blue.

If ya want "tradition", go for Keswick with a contrasting roof.

Ask for Keswick with the silver roof, you'll be popular. For some reason they won't do it.
Sunday afternoon boredom has been relieved by a visit to the local dealer and asking for it.

I've got a red Dmax and I generally let it stay dirty so I can't see all the scratches. ;) My wife says I can't have a 4wd and a nice paint job too if I'm using it for its intended purpose. :p
The long term plan for the Defender is to build it up for touring with our camper trailer and I'm leaning towards a lighter colour for the reasons you stated. I haven't seen anything in the Tamar blue but I want to see if it is lighter than it looks on the internet. We saw a Freelander in Baltic Blue and it looks nothing like the colour chart.

Its sort of a much lighter blue, which Leeanne and I think looks awesome. We've seen both the Evoque and Freelander in what seems to be the same colour.

Ok I'll bite! NOO thank you to the mustard! I acutally have a 109 in mustard, well it's not IN mustard... it's painted mustard. I would repaint it if I was allowed.
My vote is not keswick green with a white roof because that's what Ive got and I can't have too many people having the AWESOME colours cause then my car won't be an individual :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

After having many cars over the years,i generally stay with light colours such as silver or white as the darker colours all seem to show the scratches.
Sure those blues,red/maroons,greens do look fantastic, but after a bit of time in the scrub, the scratches seem to appear, and are hard to get rid of.
With the lighter colours they do seem to polish out much easier and don't show up badly in the first place.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I have always preferred white for a four wheel drive, primarily for hiding scratches.
However, I just ordered a 110 wagon and I decided to go for Keswick green. I think it looks great for a landy, and with the white roof I just reckon it suits. I don't generally worry about a few inevitable scratches. Call them "fun trophies" and smile.
Good luck with your choice.

There are some great colours, but if ya're interested in what is closest to the "traditional" LandRover colour, then Keswick is the closest. I do not understand why JLR do not offer the original limestone roof with it.

I have a question regarding why there is a four month wait as in six weeks I will be organising a new lease on a 110 in white or red,
Is the 110 you are getting different to stock standard?
If it is different, then what items require the vehicle to be specially built at the factory?
If I want the black saw tooth wheels, can the dealer fit them or does the entire vehicle have to be shipped from the factory with the wheels?
I have been looking at Car Sales and there are a few white 110's at the dealers, my dealer advised that they can source 110's from other dealers.
I am not keen on waiting four months for a stock standard 110.

when i was deciding on colours i was in the same place as you. i was deadset on indus silver with a black roof. but ended up with corris grey and body coloured roof and now that i have it i love it. Only advice i have is get out and see as many different colors in the flesh and don't stress too much about it because as long as you choose a colour that you don't absolutely hate you'll be right :D

I think so. The one we looked at yesterday in the yard was a Freelander. It looked good but really showed the layer of dust over it. I don't want a dark colour cos I'm not that big on cleaning cars and light colours don't show the dirt as much.
I always said my next 4wd would be white once I commenced custom pinstriping my Dmax but SWMBO is not convinced.

oxzob,...If you order a Defender with a spec that the dealer has in stock, or which the dealer can obtain from another Aussie dealer, you won't have a wait, but if you want a few options that mean the car has to be built, then you will have around a 5 month wait.

During my shopping I have been quoted wait times varying from 3 to 6 months, depending on how many the dealer was getting, when the dealer's allocation was being built and how far out the dealer's allocation was already sold for.
Currently the dealers are pushing quite hard to sell off their MY13 stock, so if they already have it delivered then there are some good discounts to be had.

That sounds pretty right.
My Dealer has already sold pretty much all of his 2013 allocation....They certainly don't seem to have any problem selling them....albeit in relatively small numbers.

Mine is Stornoway Grey which is a few shades darker than the Corris Grey and yes unfortunately the bush pinstriping do show up quite clearly.
It will buff out of the paintwork if you try, but it is a Land Rover after all...:D
The snorkel and rear window frames actually takes quite a bit of flack in the WA bush environment, and those only come in one colour!

So to sum up the responses so far on this thread.
Dark colours show the scratches. - Its a Defender don't worry about it :D
I like the Tamar Blue and Keswick Green - It appears if I choose either of these colours I'll be the only one in WA. :p
It doesn't matter what colour you choose - Its a Defender, :D
Another question, can anyone who has a Keswick Green Defender comment in regards to custom pinstriping?
Thanks

I have keswick, the only custom pinstriping that I have is:
a) where some fool keyed my car
b) where I drove through a tight track and got some bush pinstripes
sorry I know no more.

Hi debruiser, is the pinstriping visible like on dark cars or is the Keswick light enough to hide it reasonably well.
Thanks

This one is just for us to look at. We have a few accessories we are getting, plus we don't want it until June next year so the build won't start until next year unless we decide what we want and the dealer wants to give us a good price on available stock.

We spotted a new 110 in Albury the other week which had a colour on it similar to the old Navy (?) colour.

Leeanne really liked it. I'm not sure I did as much as her, but it did look good. Don't know how it would go with the bush pin striping though.

I reckon, that if the vehicle's being "built" for you, you'd be doing VERY well at 4 months.
It can depend upon when the Dealer gets his order in, I think maybe they only order twice a month, then Solihull have to schedule it etc etc, then it has to get to the Dock, on the boat, off the boat, through customs etc, to the dealer, P.D'd, .....then you get it!!!
The dealer should be able to quote you a "common order no", "NSC order no", and a"Factory Order No". When you get these details, you should then, or shortly after, be able to obtain a scheduled build date etc. At my request, my Dealer provided us with copies of this stuff from their computer.
Regards, Martin.

I really miss the old "Arctic White" of the late 90's in terms of a colour that doesn't show any marks and very little dust and dirt as well.
Looks white, until you park next to an actual white car…
My 90 is my first and possibly last Defender in metallic paint (Stornoway Grey, but no plans to ever sell her now). If I was buying a new one I would go for pretty much any of the solid colour with preference towards the muted shades.
Pickles' Keswick Green one does look stunning (refer your pre delivery photo).
I hope the new "Defender" or what ever the post 2015 car is called is sensible enough to look good in a traditional "flat colour".
Cheers,
Lou

Hi dullbird,
I am in the ACT and I am expecting delivery of my Keswick green 110 wagon in a couple of months. I love the black grille and headlight surrounds, but it is not offered as standard with the 110 wagon.
I have been trying to sway them to deliver the vehicle that way, but the Poms are keeping their steely resolve and it is unlikely I'll be able to get them to do it. The dealer is continuing to hassle the LR on my behalf, but there are no promises.
I would certainly be interested in a swap of the brunei for the black if they are interchangeable between the 110 and the 130.
Anybody out there expecting delivery in a few months and interested in a swap of their black grille/headlight surrounds for the Brunei, let me know :)
