I was inspired by the tanami thread to start this one.

Please post pics of any Defenders featuring decals whether factory, aftermarket or custom.

The mid 80s County decal when new, being brighter and colourful, was much better than the grey Defender decals I reckon.

Had the same as these on my 110 and took them off after a few months.

Made the car look a lot newer

My dad had 1984 v8 county and had the old style stickers on that.

yeah the defender decals are normally gone all crappy, i would remove them too except mine are in good condition. Our old defender got them taken off but it was used in the mines so they did that.

I have purchased the OEM "Defender" decal that was fixed to the bonnet of earlier Defenders. The spot to place it is of course still there, which is where it will be affixed before we take delivery.

It's interesting that others are removing decals to make the car look "newer".
I think that an appropriately professional, classy looking custom decal would transform a 'plain jane' white 130 into something a little more... dramatic !

Just need some cool ideas.....

have a friend who owns a vinyl company if someone can get me the files for the decals?

here are some small graphics on my defender, not what you are after in this thread though I assume?

Someone I know owns Bodymold Graphics (http://www.bodymold.com.au/). They do reproductions of the County graphics. They used to be on eBay for about $165. I was thinking of getting them to do up a nice set of County graphics with "County" changed to "Defender" and "v8" changed to "TDCi". But then I thought of lots of other things to do with $165 :D

That'd be a band logo, HIM i think, they call their genre 'lovemetal'.
I've seen a few vans and cars with Metallica, Slayer or Slipknot, even Pink Floyd graphics all over the paintwork, but never expected to see HIM :p

It is indeed the Heartagram from HIM, I would have gone for a nightwish logo but it just didn't look right, it was printed to test out the cutting on the new vinyl printer my mate got for his business.

Mine aren't crappy. Mine have character!

Although strictly speaking only one of them has character. The driver's side one is in almost perfect condition, but is the original as far as I know.

I like the Defender logos, I have one faded one and one newish one, due to wifey having an incident a few years ago. I have seen them without and think they look plain, and it makes the misaligned panels stand out more.

I was thinking today about zebra stripes, wouldn't be too hard, as I have a few mates who could do it, and easily removed later.

I've been keen on replacing the decals on my 90 for quite some time (see below), but could never find the right design.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I got in touch with a helpful member of another forum who was kind enough to supply an Adobe Illustrator base file which I could then modify to suit. It's 90% there (and from afar looks perfect), but I'm still not quite happy with the font, and I still need to check the dimensions prior to printing.

If anyone is handy with Illustrator and has a bit of spare time, I'd be happy to provide the working draft and talk them through the changes. I've just got too many other projects on the go that it's quite low on the list of priorities. This is where it's at currently - the right hand side door is reasonably good - the LHS still needs a bit of work.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2013/11/219.jpg

If there's interest, perhaps a group print could be organised. I imagine quite a bit of vinyl could be saved by "spooning" a number of door designs together.

Leroy, any idea what sort of printing costs we'd be looking at from your mate?

Cheers

I can't deny it - I have been contemplating some zebra stripes for quite some time now, just for fun. Kinda topical at home as my eldest child is heading off to Africa tomorrow for a 3 month trip.

It would be easy to do and I found some black decal material on ebay a few months ago. The main thing that stopped me was not knowing how easily it would come off and if the bonnet in particular might have issues due to the heat of the engine.

PS. Can you get a tropical roof for a Puma?

Mine arrived in the mail the other day, and I fitted it to the top of the grille where it really transformed the look of the front of the car. I cannot understand why Land Rover do not factory fit them any more. It would add perhaps a couple of dollars if that to the finished car. But it looks oh so much better and fills that otherwise empty space. Perhaps I'm just too pedantic...

I will find out price for one set, then look at what we can do with more sets.

I used to be okay with Illustrator, though last rebuild of my computer saw CS5.5 not re installed, suppose I could re-install and see how my skills still are with it. .

what colour would look best on a white defender?

Offender90
26th November 2013, 12:00 AM
The colour scheme could be changed to any colour desired. The initial setup may take about 1/2 hour to group all the same coloured layers together, but the colour scheme could then be changed to any set desired with just a few mouse clicks.

I remember seeing a zebra striped Series III for sale in the UK years ago. I had to laugh when the vendor noted in the advert that it answered to the name of 'spot' (maybe it's just my sense of humour).

Doesn't really work outside Africa... And even there you would raise frowns if you are not employed on a game farm or a national park.

I've seen some very creative vinyl wraps on Defender though. A while back there was one for sale done up in a digital desert camo wrap that was pretty impressive and the wraps are removable when the novelty wears off.

Cheers,

Bonnet Decals...

White bonnet: "Land Rover" decal added to a TD5.
Grey bonnet: "Land Rover" decal standard on 2.4lt TDCi (puma).
Green bonnet: "Defender" decal standard on 2.2lt TDCi (puma).

Note that the decals on both Defender TDCi (puma) are a smaller size to that of early decals.

If Defender TDCi owners look at the front of their Defender, they will see the plastic head light surrounds are cockeyed angling downwards.....

These are old pics.
It's two pieces, hinged at the bottom, wing nuts at the top so it can be opened and a piece of air conditioning filter media placed between to protect from grass seeds and crap when out bush.
It's a clever idea that I can't claim, it was on the car when I bought it, I've just modified it a little.

162227162228162229In 2012 I got these done for a fellow Defender2 member for his Puma. He wanted the older type stripes. I had them copied from a brochure. Is this the type you mean? I can send you photos from the sales brochure if you want. They were sent to Greece and they weigh a lot so I do not know what shipping to Australia would cost.
Here is the thread on Defender2. The pictures are on page 2.

I had a white Tanami decal 300Tdi that was so nice I still don't know why I sold it. And for what I ask myself??

Anyway, so I sold the post 300Tdi thing and bought this 2006 TD5. Actually apart from some rust on the front doors it is even nicer so I'm ok. I thought hard about buying it and was a bit concerned about the color. Then it dawned on me that this is the best color for a Defender, if only that I can find it anywhere. Green of course is also nice, as is that heritage pastel green and white, and...

But the decals confuse me. What are they? Surely they are made up?
