Has anyone mounted an ARB or similar air compressor (for pumping tyres up) on a L322? I thought about mounting one in the spare wheel well - but a tad difficult to get to when the rear is loaded up. Might just end up with a portable one this time. :(

I have a portable one, plugs into andersen plug on back bumper. Store it in behind the panel LHS boot. I'm not sure how much space you have in there, my TD6 has a couple ECUs and the DSP with heaps of room to spare, made a shelf to cover all the fragile stuff and use it to store compressor and a several bags of other gear.

If you want to mount a permanent one in the wheel well, just run the line so you have a plug and switch you can reach.

Not sure what spec you have, but if yours doesn't have the sub woofer in it, then there is a stack of room behind the LHS rear panel. You would need to run a supply over to the other side - there is a 100 amp supply to the back of the car behind the RHS rear panel.

You could also mount it in the cubby below that - where I (and others here) have the second battery mounted.

Chris I was at ARB a couple of weeks ago looking at their compressors, the salesman said he thought it was possible to fit one in the engine bay...although when I had a look under there, I can't for the life of me see where they could shoehorn it. I think I'll end up taking a portable one away with us next year.

My 2003 TD6 L322 has an ARB compressor in the passenger side under the air intake for the intercooler. I brought the hoses and switch out to plate the the top of the suspension strut - works a treat.! Air hoses and attachment stored in the battery compartment.

I also have the second battery under the floor on the rear drivers side corned with the battery manager (Piranah) riveted to the inside of the wheel well. Its double skinned so you can't see the rivets.

I assume you mean the air intake for the fuel cooler?

Harlie,
I think you would be right. That's where I mounted mine, however it is about 12 years old, could be smaller than current models.

I will be adding a compressor (Thumper so quite large) and a small additional tank in the spare wheel well once I have made the rear tyre swing. I will also be plumbing in the tank to the supply line for the EAS with a check valve so if there is an issue with the installed side, it will just reply on the standard compressor.

and because of a previous experience with a blown airbag, i am also adding taps for the supply lines on each bag, so in the event of another failure I can simply turn off the bag allowing the rest to still inflate and allow me to continue driving...on a slight lean (it works I had to do in for a month while parts were in transit)
