Wife's pulsar has decided it doesnt want to proceed, no warning signs at all and just refuse to start on Friday. I have checked all the usual suspects like fuses and relays, wiring plugs/ sockets.
I have never replaced the fuel filter so put in a new one (in tank) and checked for fuel pressure at the fuel rail which it does, plugs are only 5 months old but are dry so i suspect the injector circuit.
Injector driver relay i swapped with some of the other relays but the bastard still wont fire.

you need a scan tool of workshop manual.

check over power circuits. alarms-ignition switch.
simple things like crank angle sencor and air flow meter will stop them.

It's a long shot but check the cam is turning.
It may be a broken timing belt.
Can't remember if it was the N15's or 16's it was happening to.
This was just starting to be happen when I stoped spannering at Nissan many moons ago;)

x2! We had a SSS Pulsar. Was a great car, and yup, one morning it wouldn't start. Belt was stripped. Oil ingress from that rocker cover that always leaks. New belt and gasket and away we went! :)

Just checked and there is no timing belt on this engine (1.8 DOHC ) and i doubt the chain has let go so back to the drawing board.

timing chain failures are common. I would expect a lot of noise unlike to old belt engines.

the way its set up is difficult to do so its a big backyard operation in the UK fixing up cheep tow ins.

1.8 is twin cam. but is like a Toyota with the second cam run of the other with gears.

Very frustrating, doesnt appear to be firing the injectors although it did fire briefly last night once. Fuel pressure is fine at rail and return line to tank, so i'm suspecting a sensor of some sort.
I rang nissan just in case ecu's were a common problem but they said no.
I have replaced both the crank angle sensor and cam sensor and still nothing - a match might be next .

Turns out the only key we got when we bought the car decided that after 4 1/2 years it would immobilise it , had the key re-programmed and all good.

Damm chip transponder keys!

Never hurts to get a second one cut and programmed. As a bonus though you can program the remote central locking fob without a needing a nanocom. Bought one last year off fleabay and did it myself.

After owning Iggy for almost 18 months I'm reasonably impressed. A bit shopping trolley bland, but super reliable and cheap as chips to run. Just the sort of car you need when the Landy, Alfa and Jag are being a bit demanding.

Cheers

Don't worry about the responder keys.

They are the most common easily stolen car at the moment, Vic roads and Vic police have sent letters to owners.
They are used in crimes.
My son had his stolen and the cops came the next morning to say they found it , we didn't even know it was gone.

A pair of small scissors opens the door and fits into the ignition key and turns and starts. Even after this my son can still use his key!

Nissan have know about the lack of security on this model and have done nothing to rectify it. So much for the key transponder, scissors don't come with a passive coil thingo.

As for not starting the fuel pump under the rear seat failed on my sons and it caused the no start issue, another common problem

cheers,
Mario

Interesting......

My pulsar will turn over but not start unless the the key has the transponder chip and the key is coded to the car.

Out of curiosity I shielded the head of the key with a few layers of alfoil tonight to cover the chip and the car refused to start. Removed alfoil and all ok.

I guess there must be a way around the system, much like you can disable the immobiliser in a d2 using a nanocom.

Cheers

Steve

Bloody car,now the starter motor is playing up. Solenoid is clicking but she no start, japs have put the starter up under the inlet manifold and there is room to get the damn thing out - another wasted weekend .
