Not a good title and not even sure it belongs here, but might help others.
I'm (finally) in the process of updating all my CDs onto a USB via my computer (for rip and backup).
My music setup at home (older Bose unit) does not have a USB port, but does have an HDMI one.
I've googled and got myself even more confused, BUT would a suitable connection allow my USB to be read and played by my music setup via the HDMI port or are the systems incompatible? If can do, can anyone recommend a suitable connector? Cheers Gavin

you cant go directly from USB to HDMI. you can get play back devices that do it however.

Before you go too far I would check that the HDMI on your head unit isnt for play back but is intended to drive Video displays in which case its an output not an input.

A set top box, bluray or android media player that has a USB port and connects via HDMI are pretty cheap these days.

I really must learn some of these new terms.
But seriously, thats a fair suggestion, but we've just cleared the decks of superfluous pieces of equipment and I'm trying to keep the unclutterede look. Having said that, I accept I'll have to have some form of "connection", just trying to minimise/hide stuff.
