Has anyone that has ever owned a Series Landrover before, needed to replace the floor panel section under the pedals (clutch/brake ect)?

I have a rather large rust hole, that seems to be getting larger every time I have a tap at it, and when I looked at completely replacing the whole panel, noticed that its actually part of the firewall - not bolted in.... Hrmm... Meaning that the only way is to "cut and paste" with an oxy.

I have heard of "Floor panel repair patches" available, but have never seen one in the flesh. This obviously says that its a common problem.

This rust hole, as you will all probably experience at one stage or another, is caused by water splashing up into the wheel wells, coming in direct contact with this particular panel.

Anyone have any solutions, or have encountered any difficulties in repairing this area in the past? Would like to make it neat without welding heavy plates of steel over the holes if possible.

footwells go on a regular basis

you can buy them complete or get some 1 or 1.5 mm sheet and make your own if you have the gear.

easy job if you have the gear.. not that expensive if you dont.

gotta put a couple of small patches in mine when i replace the holden motor with the rover 4cyl in the next couple of months.

Thanks mate - yeah got to do it soon... part of the roadworthy obviously. I thought that I would just ask for some advice before I tackle the problem. Hopefully I won't find any more of those dreaded rust holes when I start to dig deeper.

Brings a happy tear to the eye when you said that you are getting the Holden out and the Rover in soon. I can't believe that people do such a thing to such a beautiful piece of machinery. Yeah ok it might be easier for parts and slightly more powerful, but little do they know that its going to bring them constant grief in regards to gearboxes. Landy gearboxes just can't handle the speed of holden motors.... proven fact from the guys that fix them! They keep coming back time and time again with busted gearboxes and the owners "just don't know why it keeps doing it..."

Anyways.. well off the subject, but yeah thanks for your advice.

As a temp fix, knock all the rust out, paint remains with killrust then rivet an alloy cover plate over both sides.

You could always leave the hole and if you get stuck off road you could use the "Flintstone's solution" style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

My old XC ute had a rusty floor panel and I fibreglassed the bastard.

You can always go to a sheetmetal worker and get them to fabricate you a pair of footwells out of ally about 1.5mm is best that way you don't have to worry about them rusting for a while and while you do that do the floor as well.

Most of that rust is caused by a buildup of dirt on the underside in the engine bay.Odds on the inner gaurd liner that bolts onto it is rusted out as well and needs the same attention.A reasonably easy fix just a little arkward to get too.
