Removing head rests

I've got a 2005 TDV6 S model. 5 seats only.

I'd like to remove the rear head restraints completely when I lay the back seats down so that I can move the front seats a bit further back.

I've found the normal clip on one post that is used to lock the head rests up, but it doesn't let me pull them completely out.

There is another 'thing' on the other post but it doesn't seem to move much.

What am I missing?

If the're the same as the D4(which are a PITA) there are 2 buttons one on each stark, press them in together and lift up.

Oh yeah and they need to go in all the way and if you have fat fingers, well good luck:twisted:

Worked for two out of three.

Don't know why one wont shift, I guess I need a bigger hammer!!

At least I can sit comfortably now , I'm sure my wife wont complain!!

Turning them backwards can stop that, also does what ytt105 is trying to achieve, my missus did this, I would imagine for the same reason as ytt105, Kerry couldn't lie back into the seat, as the headrest would push her head forward.

I'm pretty sure the head restraints serve to protect the cervical spine (neck) from sever injury (e.g. whiplash) when hit from behind.As he said, they are not a comfort device they are a passenger protection device. They are also useful in the secondary impact of frontal and lateral crashes.

So as long as they are returned when passengers are sitting in the seats there shouldn't be a problem.

If owners don't return them for passengers they should be locked up! :nazilock:

I think some people need to read the original post.

I need to take the headrests off because when you lay down the back seats the head rests force you to move the front seats forward, otherwise you cant lay the seats down properly.

This is in the S version which has different headrest and seat arrangements to the SE/HSE.

As others have said, of course I'd put them back when the seats are up!

I solved this (on a long trip) by removing the "seat" part of the rear seats.
Found I could have the front seats all the way back and it created a bit of storage space behind the front seats :)
Was a very easy job (even for me!) to remove and replace.

The 'bigger' hammer helped me get the last one off.

Now I can remove them as and when required.
