View Full Version : Help required - eTag mounting photos

Hi all, I am currently having an argument with GoVia about mounting the eTag on my Defender. The tag beeps on the tollgates on the tunnels and on one of the Logan motorway toll gates, on the others it does not beep, so they charge me a "video charge" each time it does not beep.
The tag is mounted behind the mirror, and vertical instead of horizontal, as the mount supplied with the tag was meant to stick on the dashboard of a truck, not a windscreen, and mounting it horizontal would mean the tag would not be parallel to the windscreen or direction of travel. Their first customer representative told me it made no difference, vertical or horizontal as they were very sensitive.
They now claim it is the roof rack and roll cage, and now have asked me to mount the tag horizontal on the bottom of the windscreen, but still insist that the mount on using the truck mount and the end of the tag will be even further under the roof than before.
They won't admit that they supplied the wrong mount or that their equipment is fault, as they will have to reverse all the video charges since supplying the mount.
Please can you send me a photo of where your e-tag is mounted and whether it works - i.e. beeps each time you pass a toll point, especially if you have a roof rack.
Thanks

In my 110 the tag is just sitting on the dashboard leaning against the windscreen - standard car mount - and seems to work ok

Mine is mounted in the the same place as yours except it is horizontal and it is a NSW unit. I have never had a problem with any tolls and is mostly used on the ones you are having a problem with

I have a full length roof rack that overhangs the front off the top of the windscreen by 300mm

There is another thread on this. We have had heaps of probs with both our defenders until we used a truck mount and stuck them just above the dash. Photo is 300tdi but our puma is in the same spot and both work perfectly now.
Make sure you get your matching fee back....it took a fight for us but we got it in the end

Mine is on the windscreen behind the mirror mounted horizontally - i assume my Vic e-tag is a similar unit.

On our Citroen it has metal in the windscrean & the only place the E toll will work is the X hatched section behind the rear vision mirror . Found this out after getting 4 tickets in mail then asked the Citroen dealer. No appology from dealer for not telling us when we picked up the car new:mad:

Nope ...... Ipad. Not exactly a master. From the last thread this seems to be Qld Go Via only issue.

Even though I live in Sydney, I have a Qld GoVia etag. It's mounted directly behind the mirror with no problem. It was in the same location in my previous 110 with no problem either.
Do you have a problem with all toll roads up there, or only certain toll points?

Mine in on a truck mount, mounted behind the mirror, and it doesn't work. They said I had to mount it horizontally, not vertical like you have in the photo. I've asked for written instruction, so if it does not work, then I'll be off to the toll Ombudsman

Not tried mine on any Sydney toll roads but I had probs on both gateway and Logan Motorway until I moved the tag to just above the dash. From memory I tried both car and truck mount behind mirror without success.

Mine work without fail now in the vertical position. Give it go. The call centre staff were mostly useless for help. Got a different story each time we rang. It was a battle to get a truck mount when I got the new puma and again when I broke a windscreen. They insisted I must have car mount even though I new it would not work. The refund of the matching fee was no problem with one person and refused with another:mad:

Mine is mounted at the top of the windscreen in line with the rear view mirror stalk. I have not had a problem on the Clem, Gateway or Airport Link. Saying that I haven't used toll roads a lot but when I have it has always beeped as expected.

there's a toll Ombudsman???? Now that sounds like a cushy job.
Ian, mate - just link them to your website and they'll be paying YOU! :D hope this helps :)

With a car mount, mine is top right corner of front windscreen behind a LROCV 50th Anniversary sticker, no issues with the toll gates...
FYI, here in Melbourne, you can pop into the Citylink offices near docklands and pick up either a car or trunk mount for free.

The staff on the phone have been next to useless, they seem to have to read off a prepared script, and depending on what you ask, they have set answers and can't deviate from the script until you ask a question another way and then you get a different answer.
The last guy was pretty rude, just kept on saying that he had given me the information and it was up to me to act on it, even though I told him what he asked me to do did not make sense. I asked to speak to his manager, but the manager was off course busy, and would call back, but I doubt they will.
I checked the account and they have reversed some of the charges, it seems like just another money grab to me.

I ditched Govia years ago because their tags were always failing to read. Went with Flow when they opened the Clem7 and got a bunch of free and reduced tolling for three months. Their tags still fail occcasionally but they always refund any video matching fees when I ring them, and they have all been fine to deal with. If their video shows you were travelling with the tag then they cannot charge you for an obvious failure of their hardware.
Wait until the Legacy Way tunnel opens and there will probably be another etag discount offer to encourage people to sign up or switch.

I have owned many Citroens over the years, and have just sold my 2005 C4 Exclusive. My wife still drives a 2010 C3 Exclusive. I know that in both the C3 and C4 hand book there was a section dealing with the fitting of electronic tags due to the metallic windscreen. I would be surprised if they no longer include that in the handbooks of the newest models. But then Citroens have always been quirky...and temperamental.

My Flow tag is mounted just in front of the VIN plate in the bottom left corner of the windscreen. Never had a problem.

After so many years with so many different Citroens, I know exactly how temperamental they can be. May I ask exactly what problems you have with yours, and what year/model do you own?

Its a 2008 C4 2L diesel . The Cat converter carbons up all the time causing hunting ( the fix is to lock in 2nd gear & drive hard for about 5k's) , head lights go out when driving at nighe for no reason , when reseting cruise conterl it causes all the instruments to go out , ( have to switch off motor & restart to reboot) wipers move from rest up the screen while car is parked in garage over night & every thing is switched off , had to replace front discs & pads before 30,000k's special lock nuts on mage had to be replaced , fuel return line from injectors split spraying fuel over hot turbo, Mitchelon tyres had flat spots on them from new & fome in front seats detorating when about one year old ( when cleaning car I find powdered fome under front seats . Payed over $40,000 & would be luvkey to get $16,000 now.

^ Wow, that really does sound you got a lemon there! I have never had a Citroen with that many problems! When I sold my 2005 C4 just last week, it had 75000 km's on it with still the original tyres, brakes etc. The only thing I replaced in my 8 years of ownership was the battery. I agree about the special lock nuts though, they are crap and I did manage to slightly damage one of them trying to remove it. I am thinking of replacing my special lock nuts on my Defender 90 for that reason.

By 35,000k's we had replaced 2 faulty tyres twice then i put them in the bin & fitted yoko's , changed the car completly . Battery failed at around 3years. I replaced the lock nuts with the normal hex nuts . Its dome around 60,000 k's now & no sign of wear on the front after market discs & pads. Do you know Lucas ( prince of darkness) make the brakes on Citroens & probley have some thing to do with the electrics You do the name Citroen stands for citrus which is Lemon. & people think they have problems with Landrovers

Hahaha. Perhaps I should modify my Defender to have Citroens hydractive suspension.

Perhaps it's just me...I am weird after all, but I've never had any serious Lucas problems. Maybe I just need to get out more...

Same here in Qld
They have a office near the Gateway Bridge and another on the Logan motorway
I would go into the office there and discuss it with them rather than phone them up.
As for my defenders.
On my 110 I have the old large tag which is behind the rear veiw mirror and never had a problem. My 90 one is a new small one and is in the bottom left hand corner of the Windscreen. Never had a problem with either.
