Clutch Judder - How to recover from it??

Clutch Judder - I know I have it and suspect it was caused by the most worn seals ever in a slave cylinder letting hydralic fulid into the clutch housing and consequently onto the disk..... Could be wrong??

In anycase I would like to know whether it is likely to cause any further damage if let as is (only currently occuring intermittently) and the least painful method of recovery from it?

Any help/advise is gladly received.

If you can live with it, it shouldn't cause any real dramas. The only way to fix it that I know of is to replace the clutch and possibly clutch plate, broken fingers on the plate will also cause shudders.

Does it happen on every gear change or mainly when starting off?

Is it worse in 1st or reverse

If an engine mount is starting to separate it can cause this problem as the engine moves on the mount with the torque.

Only first and reverse, worse in first at this stage. Once I've done a couple of changes however it seems to settle down for the rest of the trip. Your comments about the mounts worry me I'll check them in the morning....

May not be the problem but get someone to watch the mounts as you take up the load in gear.

Hey there, I had a problem that i thought may have been clutch judder , turned out that changing the Oil in the front axle (diff and CV's) stopped the problem, seems when the oil gets low it judders . Have you checked your fluids lately....

The judders are similar to a slipping clutch.

My mitsabitchy tritoo has a split engine mount(have been meaning to get one!!) and I have the judders,despite fitting a new clutch and machining the flywheel when last replacing the motor.I will now get myself organised and buy one!!!!!
Im sure you are right as it only juderrs when doing left or right turns in 1st gear.

I've heard that clutch judder can be caused by leaking fluid onto the clutch plate. either hydraulic clutch fluid, or gearbox oil leaking past the front seal into the bell housing.
Worth a look. It would explain why it goes away after a while. the centrifugal force pushes the fouling fluid off the sides of the plate after the engine runs for a while.

Mine had that but youd get the accompanying dripping of fluid onto your shoe as you drive aswell for soem reason. Once I fixed the fluid leak it disappeared.

The other cause for the judders is a leaky rear main seal,especialy in a turbo diesel,been there done that with the TRYTOO !!!
