Discovery roof bars

Does anyone know if its possible to install the standard roof bars onto a discovery. The model im looking at is one of the lower level pov packs that didnt come with them as standard but I would like to put them on retroactively if I could.

First question.

Why do you want them on ?

they dont hold to much weight and are a pain in the butt if someone steels a cross bar, (no locking system).

Would be better off looking for a good roof rack, either 1/2 length or full length.


I am sure you could fit the originals if you wanted, think the roof lining has to come out to do it.

Good point about the security, i was thinking of some bunny burners like yours mounted at the front of the roof on a cross bar. Id love a full length rack that follows the roof line but dont have the $800 smackers to pull it off.

You might not want to mount lights so far forward.
Keep them back from the window and you will get less glare up off the bonnet.

My rack is a custom sized one to keep it lower than normal by 25mm.
Also had to fit over my factory bars, I had it made to a length that would have my lights sitting just before the raised roof line.

Had it done in steel and have not been disapointed.

YEs it cost me a bit $750 from memory, but I have had a lot of use out of it and I know it will still be working for me in years to come.

Got it from op/lock in Bunbury

Is 1250mm long, forgot to put that in the top bit.

Is a great unit and can be done in alloy or steel depending on choice.

I think the cost was almost the same either way.

From what I know it is not impossible to fit the original bars but it is a pain in the lower back region... You will be far better (and cheaper) off if you buy a second hand roof carrying system (Thule-type), mount the front bar only and fit your lights on it. And this way has the advantage that you only have to slacken two nuts to take it off again in case you wish to do so.
