rear storage in a RRS - what have you done?

Howdy, having just aquired a 2008 TDV8 RRS I am looking in the back trying to work out storage options given you have to be able to access the winder for the spare wheel - dont want to have to remove drawers to do it so...... maybe replace the manual winch with an electric one? But dont really trust an electric winch to hold the spare in the rough.... so maybe a cradle for the spare hinged from the chasis and held with a bolt/s at the other end near the tow bar bolts? What have others done??

Hi we have a RRS and have looked at this. The solution we were going to use is similar to what the D3/D4 guys do. Fit a short socket/bar in place on the lowering bolt that reaches up to the black cover over the area. Drill hole in the cover, in line with bolt/bar with nice snug fit grommet. The extension bar should be flush with the top of the black cover.Then you have something you can access with a socket wrench without having to go into the lower area. A 22mm socket fits the spare wheel lowering nut, get a socket/extension bar from any decent tool shop at length you choose. Then, when you fit your drawers, have one slightly bigger than the other, so that the center of the drawers does not cover your bar. Have say a lift out patch in the one draw over the tool right where spare wheel lowering tool is with draw opened to enable you to reach in with a ratchet. You will only then need to empty that first part of the draw. Then crank away! That's what we were planning on fitting. I was going to take car to Drifta for measure/fit up some time next year (when next in country, which is rare unfortunately:)) The jack has to come out (it is crap anyway) suggest you put a better Jack in your drawers for easy access. Pretty simple and uses all original spare wheel lowering bits. The is some info on here re how to fit a bar they fit it through the rubber cover over the nut to help hold it in place.

It is now because it has been moved - was originally in the Range Rover L322 section.

When fitting the drawers be mindful of the gap you have left, i'm not sure what you are planning after fitting the drawers, I made some home made ones with a 150 mm drawer underneath, even then I was really struggling to use a 40 litre Engle I had on a fridge slide on top of the drawer.
Having the hole aligned for the rear wheel carrier and the extension bar is the answer. Also be mindful you have a fuse block in the back left hand corner, you might need access to that at some point.
