I think I've given up on the under-bonnet idea. Can anybody recommend a decent portable one for about $200?

Other threads have discussed this in detail.

Personally I've got an ABR Sidewinder. Had it a few years, it gets used a fair bit and it is great. Quick too compared to others at the same price. - http://www.sidewinder.com.au/page154aa.html

Many thanks for that, ended up buying a Dr Air for under $200, be interesting to see how it performs.

Just read the Air Compressor Write up from 4WD Action mag. in 2011 - where they rated the 150psi version of the Dr Air Pro as the best....! Where did you get it from Greg? I cant find it on line (at any store).
(EDIT: found PLENTY (!) on Ebay at $199)
cheers

I actually found it on eBay Chris, being sold by a store called Motoquipe Air Compressor Ac495 Pro Flow Dr Air Car 4X4 Off Road 150 Litre Per Minute 4wd Action Award - Haigh (http://www.motoquipe.com.au/buy/air-compressor-ac495-pro-flow-dr-air-car-4x4-off-r/4278)
Looks like they ship from either Adelaide or Perth. Don't buy it from their site though, it's actually cheaper on eBay, including shipping!
Here it is on eBay, $179 plus $15 shipping, AIR Compressor AC495 PRO Flow DR AIR CAR 4x4 OFF Road 150L Pmin 4WD Action Award | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Air-Compressor-AC495-Pro-Flow-Dr-Air-Car-4X4-Off-Road-150L-pmin-4WD-Action-Award-/261084431142)

Thanks Greg, done!
Think I will replace alligator clips with an Anderson plug too so I can run from the plug at the rear of the car,
cheers

Good idea, the battery in the Vogue is pretty hard to get to.

Hi, How did you go with the Anderson plug replacement and are you happy with the compressor?
Cheers,

yep, no probs at all. Anderson plug mounted at the back next to the tow bar, all very neat and tidy!
