For all you Australian Military enthusiasts out there - there is a new magazine on the newsagent shelves at the moment called:

"CONTACT: Land, Sea and Air".

First issue (March 2004) is currently out and available for $8.95.

Contains some good articles on the requirements for joining the Australian SAS, Aussies in the Foreign Legion, plus some other good reading articles about the ADF.

Definately something that I would be looking out for in the future, which would interest people who like the Australian and NZ Defender Magazine and related mags.

Cheers,
Cul

You know what else is a good read ?

"War and Peace" by Tolstoy.

Not relevant, but true nonetheless. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

Yeah thats right its not bad. This might be a good opportunity to post some names of some decent books/mags in here... cause I really enjoy a bit of reading every now and again.

My girlfriend thought it rather sad because I don't read as many books as here because she is a compulsive reader and is always on my back about doing more reading and expanding my awareness in good books... and she freaked out when I said I read an entire book from cover to cover in a matter of 2 hours!

Her suprise later turned to disgust when she asked what the book title was, and I was a tad hesitant in telling her it was the Series III Landrover Workshop Manual.....

Hrrmmm... you know what is really sad.... I have photocopied all the pages and made another book, but laminated all the pages against drooling accidents.... no really... makes a difference when you are working on the landy so you don't get grease all through the original book, so you have laminated copies that you can clean off if you handle them with dirty hands! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Method in the madness!!

HAve seen that done with workshop manuals.

But it does look like you know whats happening if you have some grease and oil on the pages rather than mr sheen.

(sorry to get back on topic for a moment style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif )

A Collector's Guide
THE LAND-ROVER 1948 - 1988

Author: James Taylor
Motor Racing Publications Ltd (England)
ISBN: 0 947981 25 X

(It just occured to me that the ISBN is like a chassis number for a book) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

some people dont like the inane dribble that goes on in here, but as long as the dribble is confined to general chat area and kept out of tech talk , i cant see the problem, just because we drive landy's ,doesn't mean we have to behave like stuffed shirts hey!!!!!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Just in addition to this post which I started a while back.... I've just bought the second issue of Contact: Land, Sea and Air, and to my suprise.... they have added a letter I emailed to them a while back in the "feedback" section not far from the front.
Titled "Land (Rover) Lubber" - it was just a short congratulations letter on their first issue and about my growing collection of Ex-Australian Army Landrovers, and to my suprise today they printed it. Thanks guys!

Regards,
Cul
