Just wondering if there are any FNQ forumites around? Just scored a 3 year contract based out of Cairns, and will be moving there at the end of the month.

Can't wait to get out of Sydney and start exploring the north. Cape york so close....

You lucky bugger, I am just reading the cape treck story in the latest 4WD monthly. I will be moving to the Isa in about a month, not quite what your after though but I do want to get up into that gulf country for a bit of a camp.

Where do I start....Hmmmm....There is a L/R Club in Cairns, so I suppose that would be a good start. I am in Townsville only 4hrs down the track.... speaking of tracks, if you need some suggestions i may be able to help. Have a few destinations for you and some good day trips. Some you will require permits for, i know as i have had to get numerous of these especially in the wet tropics region. Its worth the hassell. West of Cairns is good as well, perhaps we could start you with a trip to Maytown, real 4X4 stuff in isolated conditions ( not a summer trip). From Cairns you would need at least 3 days in good weather.

Getting time off will be the hardest thing for the first little while, but can't wait to do some offroading and to meet you guys.

Will go along the the LR club as well. Got an ex in Townsville, so will be down there visiting too.

Any members passing through on the way to cape york very welcome once I find somewhere to live (short term accommodation is sorted, but will have to find somewhere permanent).

You've got a sandgropers dream posting (providing it was temporary) enjoy every minute! We are planning Cape York in 3 years (long service) but you will have it in easy reach.
I should ask my company to open a branch in FNQ.

Hey Timmo,

Been up Cape York during the Olympics (getting away from Sydney)... what a trip! Yup - it was in the old Series II...
Fab part of the planet - I am still raving on about it to my friends and have the photos as my desktop pictures (changing every minute or so... you know Mac...)
Onya mate scoring a job up there - given half the chance I'd move up there too...

..and for the others not so lucky (RichardK) - we did the trip in 4 weeks: week and a half to get there 2 and a hlaf to come back with a couple of nights at Herron Island on the way back... although we didn't do too many side-trips whilst on the Cape so I WANNNA GO BACK!!!!!!... yeah, as if THAT's gonna happen style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif
