I know there are a lot of aviation buffs out there but I have forgotten who you all are. So tell me.
For those in the Brissie area - I was thinking we could do a run (LR convoys always look good) up to Caloundra to have a look at the Queensland Air Museum.
I haven't any date in mind yet, just gauging interest.

The caboolture air show is on this year and is a way big event with a bucket load of new and older stuff.
Caboolture Air Spectacular
Saturday, 15 May 2004 - Sunday, 16 May 2004
8:00am
Caboolture Air Field
The Caboolture Air Spectacular 2004 is much more than just an air show. Held over the 15th and 16th May 2004, the event encompasses a whole weekend of complete entertainment. With over 3 hours of air show both days, the Caboolture Air Spectacular features some of the southern hemisphere’s rarest and most amazing aircraft, ranging from warbirds, to vintage, mustangs, ultra lights, gyroplanes, gliders and commercial aircraft. To keep everyone entertained there are also exhibitor stalls, markets, an up-market tent city (for those keen on camping!), rally cars, racing, an international food hall, licensed bar areas and… the Ford Bull Riding Championships (being held on the night of Saturday the 15th May 2004). Add to this free child minding and a children’s playground and you have got an event the whole family can enjoy! The Caboolture Air Spectacular… Much more than just an air show! Bus shuttles will operate to and from Caboolture station. Corporate and Gold Pass tickets also available.

Is that Spectacular at Caboolture in May the AAAA flyin weekend? I know there is a AAAA flyin there some time this year, might be a good weekend to fly up and stay at Caloundra.
Usually do the coastal trip out around the islands at 500' all the way, a bit lower to land on the beach on Moreton or Strady if the tides right and there aren't too many Landrovers on the beach. In the summer you wouldn't believe the amount of wildlife in the water, probley a couple of hundred Manter's ranging in size from a metre to 5 or 6 metres across, and maybe half a dozen Bronze whalers and hundred or so Dolphin all this between Byron and the tip of Moreton.
Looking out the window of a 46 year old aircraft is only slightly better than looking out the window of a 47 year old Landrover but slightly quicker.

Yes Fourgearsticks style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif I think it is a joint thingy between the Antique Aircraft Assn and Caboolture Aero Club with support from Caboolture Shire Council it is held every 2 years usualy in Aug-Sept but is in May this Year it usualy has a big Warbird attendance with machines coming from most of the eastern states they can get in up to Goonies and Hercs, Caboolture Warbirds Museum is home to 2 Wirraways, P51d 20-110 a Ginwheel -er Winjeel and several Moths and Austers last Airshow had an attendence of over 80,000 and some very good Aerobatics, particularly from the Zucolli Stable well worth attending 8)

better ?
me thinks the several hundred feet difference between the bottom of the windows to the black hard stuff on the landrover would be a reasonable price to pay for a little lack of speed !

8) lewy110, as you're from the naval air base albatross [methinks] do you know about the blokes wot nicked the commanders pig? i think about xmas 73/4, when we got sea venoms, and another clever bunch nicked the brake discs as they were valuable scrap metal? i think it was a year b4 the fire?
we went there to dismantle the venoms we won in the raffle and were billeted in the mens quarters/huts. it got pretty interesting when the regular inhabitants of these huts started returning from leave and found we had women in their beds and cartons of amber fluid.
we were visitors and didn't know the rules, so the boys liked us being in their hut, and assisted us.

I learnt valuable things as a pongo style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif Things like...
There is no problem that can not be solved by the appropriate application of force...ie If it moves, shoot it, if it doesn't, blow it up! 8O style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Antaine: does that mean that if it's moving and you shoot it and it therefore stops moving - that you then have to blow it up ! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

With all the defence spending cutbacks that occured toward the end of my service we had to identify the target, take a sight picture (look through the sights along the correct angle to ensure we had aimed at said target) then declare in a loud clear voice "bullet" to indicate we had fired.
Then we painted it, and marched around it for the rest of the day!!! 8O style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
