Evening chaps.

Just had a whole host of trouble finding someone to insure the UK plated 90 under a carnet (temp import) AND being foreign with foreign licence :D

Anyway, Shannons said they could so unsure of their comprehensive price $1321, took the CTP so I can collect it from the freight company tomorrow. CTP was $230/12months.

I think I undervalued the truck somewhat so will need to go back to them and 'upgrade' my policy with the correct amount. Do you guys include the accessory value to your amount? (this isn't possible in the UK so I didn't do it) hence the under value of $10,000. I think my 'bits' would be more thanthe vehicle value in the UK but maybe not here?

So are Shannon's any good? If you have a Deefer in oz under a carnet who do you use?

And how much would it cost to replace a 1996 300tdi 90 county van here? low mileage (225,000km) metallic paint.

and if we are adding costs, ARB bumper, Warn winch, PIAA spots, roll cage, 2" lift, Koni shocks, wolf wheels, 255/85, ARB rack, wheel carrier, extra fuel tank, Hannibal awning, mantec load shelves, engel 40l, load liner, exmoor trim seats, split charge, MSS cubby box, mudstuff dash, Detroit truetrac's F+R etc

Is pretty pimped

Shannons will let you insure for an agreed value, and that should incorporate everything you want covered.

Add everything to you agrred value that you (
See: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/marketplace-alerts/187162-pickles-auction-puma-110-friday-12th-dec.html ):
- don't want to keep in the event of a write off
- can't unbolt before handing over the car to the insurance company

Re reasonableness of your quote, see http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/184558-defender-insurance.html for some examples of what others are paying

Thanks,

I saw that post after searching but there wasn't much in the way of old modified 90's. Also I do not know the cost of replacing items here in oz as I have only been here for a week.

So are you saying add all big accessories up and include? but leave the smaller things and easily unbolted items like awnings, racks, lights etc.

Bit worried about theft here in oz as EVERYTHING we own is in it or on it!

In Aust most people insure directly with a recognised insurer and do not go through a broker, however in your case I suggest you check with TCIS Brokers Domestic Insurance - Car Insurance - TCIS Insurance Brokers | Commercial Business Insurance | 4WD Vehicles | Home and Content Insurance - (Powered by CubeCart) (http://www.tcis.com.au/index.php/domestic-insurance/car-insurance/c_44.html) who should be able to find someone who can cover you.

Pretty much, although it is a double edged sword: not listed means you can unbolt and sell if you can do that before the car gets to the insurance company, but also means not covered. Things like roof racks: most collisions leave these in ok order, but it also pretty easy to make a mess of them too.

Another thing to worry about when travelling is to see how much contents you have insured. When travelling you may have a lot of personal items (cameras, laptops, etc) not covered by your usual insurance policy. IF your vehicle insurance for personal items isn't up to scratch, and you are worried about the loss, insure them through other means.

Some good advice there, thanks for explaining things.
