I am considering having a long range tank fitted. Would this mean that the spare wheel will need to be mounted on the rear of the vehicle to make room for the new tank?
Are there any recommended suppliers of Long Range tanks in Melbourne?
Many thanks in advance.:)

hi aussieseadog

As far as I know yes you need to remove the spare tyre and purchase a wheel carrier.
There is a thread or two (search) on the various wheel carriers, and associated parking sensor adjustments required.
There are several tank options available once again use the search tool and depending on the style that suits you, check out who sells and installs them.
ARB, Opposite Lock stock both.
cheers

I had the "Dolium" brand tank fitted by Opposite Lock of North Melb - they did a good job... give 'em a bell and they'll help you out.
I have my spare mounted on a "Frontrunner" RWC - works a treat...

Hi There,
As mentioned you will need to remove the spare wheel, and you need to fit the LR tank before you fit the SWC, you can't get to some of the bolts in the chassis rails when the SWC is fitted. I got a Kaymar SWC, solidly built, good unit, there are a few around. When you fit the tank first which you have to it is impossible to get the two inner bolts for the carrier in unless you put just these two bolts for the SWC in when fitting the tank. I ended up leaving them off, I did a lot of traveling over corrugations and never had a problem.
LR tank I got and fitted the ARB one, the only thing to watch when you fit the new tank is watching the fuel level when transferring, if you let the pump run on after the tank is empty it will wreck the transfer pump quick smart. It is surprisingly easy to forget when you are driving. I'm not sure what happened here, the first tank I fitted already had the auto cut out fitted, the second LR tank set up didn't and I toasted the pump.
When you fit all this extra fruit be mindful of the rear tyres load carrying capacity, I had quite a bit of trouble getting the pressures right after I had fitted both. Also on sand the extras make the back of the vehicle that much heavier, I found that I had a tendency to get into a bit of trouble, more so if you are on 18 inch rims, 17's are better if you can fit them.
