BBS have just released a new version of their Nanocom Evolution diagnostic tool and are offering a 20% introductory discount for the month of December. As a matter of fact they have decided to offer the 20% discount for their entire range of equipment for December.

This is too good of an opportunity to miss for anyone who is looking for a top quality piece of diagnostic equipment, it has lots to offer at a reasonable price as it can be connected to the BBS Genesis system to allow full CCF editing.

what would be the advantages of the Faultmate MSV-2 over this device?

The advantage to start with is that it is a quarter of the price of an MSV-2 and that it is locked to a model not a VIN, there is also a windscreen mount available as the unit will double as an instrument panel. It seems very easy and straightforward to use and the one unit can be used on any number of models once unlock codes are purchased. Per example a number of people own a D2 and a D3, they specify as the D3 when ordering and also purchase an unlock code for a D2.

I am surprised at the lack of comments or interest shown in this new diagnostic tool from Black Box Solutions especially with the introductory discount that is being offered for the month of December, it's ease of use and it's ability to access to the Genesis system.

No D4, Late RRS model may also have an affect.

Thanks Redback,
That would explain the lack of interest, silly me. I have been following this on Disco 3 UK site.

We've bought 2 x Discovery 3's in the last 2 weeks (Petrol 4.0 and Diesel). I have the existing P38 GEMS version of Nanocom and have ordered the upgraded licence and cable... Should be here on Monday...

Mines in the post, if it's as useful as the td5 version I'll be happy.
Will report when I've checked it out:)

I've received my cable. The new nanocom update seems to work pretty well, talking to all of the onboard computers and reading codes and other info about the system, though I haven't done much with it because I'm not sure exactly how to choose the correct software to install on the individual modules in the car. Also, if I choose any of the air suspension routines I get an error indicating that "function not implemented" or something.

A word of warning:
Be careful flashing the modules.
I got carried away playing and I updated the transfer case control module and it lost its calibration.

I just got an update from BBS. They have removed the transfer case updates from their site, temporarily, until they include a calibration routine in a later release of the nanocom firmware.

Potentially a good product let down by lack of willingness to answer tech questions and old outdated firmware / software.

I'm guessing the update will be available soon. They let me download a beta version and it worked flawlessly to calibrate the TCCM. :)

Potentially a good product let down by lack of willingness to answer tech questions and old outdated firmware / software.
Given there have been 4-5 firmware updates in the last month which support up to MY2012 models it seems a little odd to claim the software/firmware is old/outdated.
I've found BBS have been generally good when you need help with their products, but as they will tell you - they are a diagnostic TOOL manufacturer and do not provide technical support to troubleshooting vehicle issues you discover with that tool.
If you buy any diagnostic tool expecting the manufacturer to walk you through solving vehicle problems - unless you are buying something like TestbookT4 or Land Rover's IDS - you will be sorely disappointed.
cheers

After checking 4xforgold's post history, it has become apparent that he has no hands on experience with the Nanocom Canbus module, and his comments appear to be based on internet research he carried out in October 2013 - some 2 months prior to the initial release of the Canbus support in December 2013. I would recommend you treat his comments as being "unreliable".

Does the nanocom have a a support page or forum at BBS. I have the Faultmate but the support page only seems to cover that product and I see nothing about the nanocom. Does it not exist or is is separate and tied to your username.

But I think you have to have a nanocom to get a login.

Yes , looks like you cant see anything until you register with your nanocom id.
Faultmate and nanocom communities don't see each other. Looks to me like the current development effort is nanocom as the next update for faultmate has no date as yet.

Mine arrived in December for the D3. And only basic functions worked but immediately an update was posted to increase functionality.
Another update has just been release but withdrawn due bug report.
I would offer that the canbus nanocom for D3 has been released a little before, all the software is in order and they are getting it up ,to full functionality as time goes by, thus quite a bit of effort seems to be going towards it.
The functions that are operating work fine, faults, fault resets, suspension ht adjust, tight tolerance mode, service reset.
Real, time info I can't get to work just yet but don't have the latest update in.
No where near as user friendly or comprehensive yet as the td5 software but there is lots of software updates and options from the genesis website avail, another thing to learn!!
Still a must have in my opinion and it is a work in progress.
Cheers.
