Just talking to a guy on the phone who is selling a TD5 130 dual cab...

Its an '03 with 184k on the clock...

He said its mechanically very good but does have a bit of an oil leak at the back of the gear box.

Has improved cooling for engine, engine temp management, maxidrive at rear, 2" lift, bullbar/winch etc... apparently no rust.

Whats the leak likely to indicate? Just seals need replacing or more?

Apparently there is a mechanic shop nearby who knows the car well and works on landrovers a bit... so I could get him to look at it for me.

Leaking rear seal is not uncommon, but not universal. Probably just a seal, possibly needs the output flange replacing or sleeving, possibly a blocked breather (or any combination of these). In any case not a big job unless it has leaked enough to run the transfer case out of oil and damaged the internals (unlikely - doesn't take much oil to make a big mess!). May have contaminated the handbrake shoes, leading to a bit more cost, but should not be a major expense in any case.

back of the gearbox, or back of transfer case?

if its at the back of the gearbox, where it meets the T/case it could be coming out the top of gearbox at shifter block, blocked breather, T/case intermediate shaft...
