And why?
The books just say to use the correct type of antifreeze. What is the correct type?

I use Tectaloy 60. Used it in my disco until I started chasing better performance and running redline water wetter. To be fair I havent really run my 101 properly yet but I wanted a proper coolant in there with anti-corrosive properties while it sits.
edit* I don't concern myself with anti-freeze properties as I don't face that issue over here :D As long as the coolant has corrosion inhibitors then I'm happy.

Techalloy gold in mine. That's been used in the Rangie for 10 years now, and the internals are like new - no sign of corrosion anywhere. I change it every 2 years and use distilled water.
It is one of the first things I did to the 101 once I got it home.

I have always used Castrol Corrosion Inhibitor, or Castrol Anti-freeze on my Rover V8's - same results as the other chaps :D

Nulon Longlife every two years in V8s. BTW 50/50 with distilled water . The distilled water is probably the more important bit.

After 11 years my radiator core was perfect when I had it rodded ( to prepare for Cape York) and good to go for several more years.

Just about an QUALITY green coolant - antifreeze/antii corrosion will do. I currently have Techtyle pre mix in but I usually mix my own Castrol concentrate with distilled water.
