yesterday arvo i was in surrey hills finishing off a job and the guys from the building site across the road were all coming out to go home. one of the young-uns came out of the carpark to a give way sign and decided to show of to his mates.
he revved the guts out of his little toyhatsubarishi and dropped the clutch to do a burn out. after a loud bang and a tinkleing sound, his car rolled down the road leaving a trail of oil and bearings, teeth and other gearbox/diff paRTS. the icing on the cake was that he'd left it sticking out from the gutter a bit so his buddies tried to push it back in. well all those bits of metal in the drivetrain had other ideas and locked the whole thing up.

LOL style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif Love it when that happens. I've played around with big horsepower cars for years, but the young people now have no idea what it takes to make a real car
The idea that stickers and a wing make a car
Anyway, its not the power thats the problem, its the brains (or lack thereof) that makes the difference.

 I love it when a plan comes together...
Does this mean if I put stickers on the tray of the Landy, it will go faster :?:
Oh, and jaydafordman: I completely agree.
I blame 'The fast and the furious' which only had ONE real car in it.
I hear another snotty teenager saying the word "NOS" ever again I'll go postal. :x
Perhaps I'm just getting grumpy in my old (er) age.

I so very strongly agree!!
I too have had my fair share of the turbo/nos/idiot injected hotted up pseudo sports cars!!!
Nup, i have seen TOO Many of these 'pretend drivers' write their cars off, themselves off and worst still others in their cars off!!
Never a good sight! and mostly/always speed related...wonder why?!! 8O
(investigated a couple in my time) and it's quite sad when there is only ONE car involved and the evidence points to nothing but: speed and inexperience=driver losing control and sometimes the end result is in the paper the next day!
Anyways, there are race days everywhere if you really want to race around and show off in front of your mates and a crowd!!
that's where you can show off and do it pretty safely too!!
Cheers

THATS POWER.
Got it on a vid file for those that want it.
Big file and takes ages but.
But yes I agree if they dont know how to control the power keep them away from it for a while.

Nothing used to make me happier than pulling a doof doof over then issuing tickets for :
Driving lights - lights unprescribed ie during the day etc
Loud stereo - noise pollution
Burn out - need i say any more.
and then the classic conversation. ...
Me - So mate open the bonnet up for me
Them - Wot for - theres nothing wrong with my car - im an apprentice mechanic
Me - Oh really (gets out defect book) , ok this is the deal mate ill have a look at your car and for everything I find wrong ill give you a $60 ticket, or I can just defect it now which will it be ?
Them - nothing wrong with it mate
SO anyhow after about $600 in fines they usually go with ok ok you got me officer!
and then they get that dirty big Red (tow me home) label in the middle of the windscreen, and seven days to fix it up of cancelled rego here we come.
LOL ROFL
oh and then I took the ignition leads so they would have to get a tow or at least go out of the way and get new ones.....
Yes I was one of those types of coppers that we love to hate - BUT IT WAS FUN!!!!!

Mick,
I'm glad you weren't patrolling the Warringah Expressway between Crows Nest and North Sydney today!
An old mate and former business partner called in for a sandwich lunch and declared his recent purchase of a BMW M3.
"Would you like a drive?" he offered
"No" I said thinking "yes"
"Ï'll drive" he said
Ok I get in and fasten the seat belt he says "I've only had it up to 210"
Well we join the expressway and I start looking for handles to hold on to.
The left lane is clear and he's doing 150 (80 k zone) and he's in 4th with 2 in reserve.
That was the fastest 3 km I've ever done.
What a sweet motor: that straight 6 is singing all the way to 7800 rpm.
And not a subwoofer to be heard.
I've gotten too used to the "glug" of the diesel.

Mate although Im no Cockroach (Highway patrol) ill say this
There is no such thing as "safe speed" in fact speeds of that nature or "Speed dangerous" as we would like to call it have only two places - The race track and speed unlimited roads in outback OZ.
Im sorry to say that if I was there I would certainly do more than issue a ticket, your friend would certainly be seeing the inside of the Dock in a courtroom.....
while its fun and speed and adrenaline go hand in hand, what would have happened is things went bad?
steps down off his soapbox....
sorry for the rampage

8) quiet now, ain't it.
i get you're drift.
here in qld it seems that its a right to have a big exhaust pipe on a 4 cyl puss bucket.
something to do with the rego system here
no capacity/horsepower crap
its simple here
just 4/6/8 cyls -pay by the number of cylinders the qld transport man can see,
so we get millions of 4 cyl dirtboxes owned by children who can't drive, with big exhausts and stereos so they can't hear there own ****ty car.
the sooner qld brings in pay by horsepower the better, out will go 4 cyl crud back in comes nice sounding 6/8's
with enough tin on them to lower the death rate of innocent passengers, maybe even some drivers
woops i'm getting off track

:? about twelve months ago i went to help out a mate in his exhaust shop and was shocked/surprised to see what some of the gooses were putting on their cars, three inch chrome tips on the end of inch and a half stock systems was just some of the tamer ones , at most of these i just walked away shaking my head in disbelief 8O

i once saw a sticker on the back of an HQ ute which read "rotary's were invented to keep dickheads out of V8's"
well, it didn't work, did it? i'm driving a V8..............................................wi th a very loud 2+ 1/2 inch exhaust
barney
20th March 2004, 10:16 PM
the exhaust can be a little overwhelming at times. but it is great when a taxi cuts in front of you from a position that they legally shouldn't. i just cruise up beside the driver's window, which is usually down, drop down a gear and give it a boot full. the exhaust lets out a deafening "bark" as it goes through the peak of the torque curve leaves a lasting (ringing) reminder that their driving habits are somewhat anti-social. no yelling abuse, no hand gestures, no cussing, just noise

True.
And those speed unlimited roads have kangaroos and cattle on them far too often so "fast' certainly doesn't equal safe on those roads either. It also comes down to driver AND vehicle capabilities (in the braking department).
Stay with a Landy, and you've much less speed to worry yourself about...

Yeah some people think that 60 in a 60 zone means they are immortal.
That's frightening to me.

Mick - just going back to a post on the first page of this thread, you mentioned pinging people for "Driving lights - lights unprescribed ie during the day etc".
I just want to confirm - running those stupid bloody blinding foglights when it's not foggy (or inclement visibilty) is illegal isn't it?
(Please say yes - if it is, can I use 460watts of driving lights to bring their attention to the fact they've left their fog lights on?! )

I can testify to driving to the conditions, I went for a half way meet the other night at about midnight, (six hour drive) up to the Burke and Wills Roadhouse. If anyone here has driven that road they know what i mean, Millions of sucidal Roos and a disturbing number of large bovines calling the road home. Speed limit of 100 but we did closer to 80 on that road by neccessity. Then when we got on the good stretch between Cloncurry and the Isa I cranked it up to 100 and promptly wiped out a large roo. Gotta love work cars (hilux). I was impressed with the funky plastic bullbar. Score Roo a big fat 0 me 1
