Are 4 cylinder motors meant to have a heat shield to protect the firewall from excessive heat ?
My series 2 doesn't have one fitted but I saw one In a photo of a motor with a heat shield and thought it would be a great idea to stop my firewall from getting very hot . Are they meant to be fitted ? has any one fitted them ?
where would I get one ? Which series had heat shields ?

According to the parts books, 2a and 3 2.25 petrol motors all have the heat shield (I don't have a Series 2 parts book). But most of the ones I see do not have them! (same applies to the heat shield that is supposed to protect the battery from hot air off the radiator)

If you mean the exhaust heat shields; then yes, there are three shown in my parts book for all four cylinder models up to Suffix H.
One clamps to the down-pipe and I think it primarily protects the front tyre when stationary; as on the S1 models. The next clamps to the pipe under the passenger floor and the third bolts to the engine - from memory on my S3 it protected the starter-motor,
