Love it! The caustic, condescending and sarcastic style of writing are entertaining in their own rite.

I have a book with a similar title, it's got some gems in it. This vehicle features in it, look familiar to anyone?

Not a Landrover, not even a 4WD, but it must be where rover got their inspiration from / bought the old design.

Most of the cars on that 50 worst cars list are worth a Mint, I'd have any one of them except the Lambo and H2

They forgot the second major flaw of the Pinto.

1. They would burst into flames when hit from behind.

2. The trans had a fault where it would automatically jump into reverse.

.......... back to flaw 1.

Just goes to show, good and collectable are not at all the same things.

Loved the writing style. Such excellent descriptions.

I had a Matchbox model of one of these as a kid :), I always assumed they were 4WD.
It was actually ahead of its time if you at the number of new vehicles dressed up with tough plastic trims, and no real 4WD ability :p

Hello Going Bush,

Thank you for posting up the link to the Matra Rancho, it is a very interesting link. They actually cite how it was inspired by the Range Rover. Shame it didn't get even close to the mark.

Kind Regards
Lionel

The Matra is fascinating…I remember seeing one in Perth not so long ago.

Apart from the design being an influence for the D1, it was the tail lights that were so eerily similar in shape and placement!

If they'd got around to producing a 4WD version, perhaps the Dakar's Thierry Sabine would have been driving a Rancho instead of a Gen 1 Pajero? ;)
Cheers
Mike
