BrownDavis Tank

Does anyone have a Brown Davis auxiliary tank installed in their D3/4? I'm just about to install one and mine has the drain plug protruding down ward 25mm from the bottom front of the tank. In the installation pictures the drain plug comes out of the vertical wall of the tank and is out of the way. Seems to me my location to be a point of failure in the rough stuff off road. :(

Yes I do, fitted it myself. It's a bugger to fit as the instructions and plumbing fittings leave a bit to be desired. Yes the drain plug does hang down, I was a bit concerned about this myself. Having said that I haven't hit it yet. You are more likely to hit the rear fold of the tank. ( done that a couple of times resulting in a coupe of dents) 😯

Same with mine. When I first got the car I was worried about the drain plug hanging down. However, it has never been a problem and the rear if the tank is the only thing that gets hit.


Other things that get hit on the tracks are the main fuel tank guard, the centre chassis rails, the centre of the air tank and the front cross member and associated guard. Gordon made me up a thick aluminium replacement for the pressed metal guard in front of the cross member because mine was being pounded and pushed up into the transmission cooler above it.

Only on local region rocky sections,
No dents in the Simpson - that is more likely polish the bottom of your car!

Thanks Rich, I suspected as much. From what I encountered in my D2 even in the cross-country sections I wouldn't think clearance under your vehicle would be a problem for the tank.
