D3 Brakes 'Lock Up'.

Help please from out there in the Forum.
This is for a Lady in distress ( Brand new D3 owner ), and friend of my daughter. This is as reported to me over the phone this afternoon.
At some stage, while traversing a loose gravel road, the brakes locked up and prevented further progress.
It was found, that it was able to be moved in reverse, then when put into 'Drive', it would move forward, but when the brakes were used, the car would appear to 'Lock Up' and not move forward. I then understood that it could be moved if Reverse selected, and subsequently, when Drive selected, it would move forward, but only till the brakes were applied again when it would Lock Up again.
I was trying to help with diagnosis over the phone, and with an afternoon Thunder Storm passing over her head. All controls were declared in the correct positions, and with no warning lights anywhere.
Does this sound familiar to any D3 owner out there that could suggest what the the problem might be?

Two things I have heard of:

The caliper pins seize, or
The electronic parking brake jamming, or in need of adjustment.

Either way, I'd suggest a tow truck to the nearest LR specialist.

Sounds to me like a park brake issue.
It seems to be fairly common for the brake shoes to bind. When this happens and there is enough heat the lining of the shoe breaks off and can cause it to lock up. I assume the position of the broken lining is allowing reverse movement but not forward.

If it is the Electronic Park Brake, there should also be a warning light on the dash. You have to take out the cup holders and use the rod from the jack to disable the EPB by pulling on a cable loop - then remember to not touch the EPB until it is serviced. Prety sure this process is covered in the manual.

It is not an EPB problem, as that system operates On and Off OK.
Lady is trying to get car booked in for check at nearest ( and that's K's away ) L/R agency.
Hope it's an easy Fix as she had only owned the car for 2 days before this happened. I'm trying to get her to not give up hope in the product.

Just to note that when I had the binding the epb appeared to operate fine, just wasn't releasing 100%. Also no warning lights.

Guys, update on the 'Damsel in distress'.
$60 tow to the nearest garage, non L/R agency, and as Sheer luck would have it, a $40 bill for fixing a lost/loose caliper bolt. so 'Sheerluck', you were right on the 'Button', thanks, and also to the other 2 contributors.
Faith restored in the L/R product, but not in the Mechanic who recently carried out a Brake service to the Vehicle.
