I was there Friday and Sunday and I can assure you that both days were very entertaining. The cricket was outstanding and there is just so much happening on and off the field to keep you interested. Add a radio (with ABC Grandstand broadcast) to add a commentry to the visual spectacle, it just can't get any better :D:D

I also love test cricket, especially an ashes series. I watched most of it but missed probably the best hour of the series, Watsons 50 to 100 and Bailley's 28 in one over, courtesy of The ho har's rocking up to my place for a visit.

This would have to be the ultimate in selfish posts.
People have expressed their joy at the result of a sporting event that has probably had no effect on your daily life whatsoever, and instead of just letting them have their moment of rapture after several years of disappointment, you decide the world needs to hear your opinion on a game you don't even watch?!

How do you feel about the push to build a new multi-purpose ground , with a drop in wicket, & leave the W.A.C.A., as reported on the ABC. I agree the Grandstand broadcast is excellent , it would enhance the experience at the ground, but I was pleasantly surprised by the channel nine broadcast, as well, some of those TV shots were great, & the lunchtime show very good. I have to say, the Barmy Army sounded in good voice, what is it like actually being at the ground with them? Cheers, Bob

Hi Bob.
I think the WACA ground is a great old style venue with grassed areas and heaps of character. I would hate to see it lost to a "bowl" venue like the other major stadiums in Australia. How could you get swing from the sea breeze when hemmed in by stands all 'round the ground? That said, the WACA ground is very old and a recent tour of the MCG highlighted to me how far behind in terms of facilities the WACA ground is.

It is my understanding that:
- The WACA ground is the only major ground in Australia that is NOT at least partially owned by the government.
- At the MCG for instance, 85% of the ground revenue is derived from AFL. The WACA is a single use venue.
- The state government is effectively setting up in opposition across the river with its new stadium.
These items alone are going to make it very hard for the WACA ground to survive long term and attract the big games to the old venue. :(

My impression was that the the Barmy Army was quieter this year from their last tour. They are quiet impressive when they get into song though. IMO, it is worth going to see them alone. Four(?) years ago we spent a day on the grass in the next bay from them. My then four year old son summed them up perfectly when he turned to his mum during the day and stated, "mum, those people are NOT normal!". :D:D

Cheers,

Hey England, we're really, really sorry for humiliating you in the Ashes

DEAR England,

We get that you're hurting right now. It's only natural. You came down here expecting to retain the Ashes easily, and instead you've played like a second-rate club side from Surrey.
Meanwhile, our boys have been absolutely brilliant. Stunning. Cruelly, indecently good. As we watched your ashen faces at the end of the third Test yesterday, we couldn't help but feel guilty. So we've decided to suck up our pride, pause the celebrations and apologise for humiliating you so thoroughly.

We're sorry.
We're sorry the cracks in your batting line-up are wider than those in the WACA pitch. We're sorry your only century in three Tests has come from a bloke who wasn't even born in your hemisphere, and we're sorry you can't call up a few more South Africans to fill in the gaps. At least South Africa's a challenge these days.

We're sorry Kevin Pietersen is so hopeless against Peter Siddle, who's dismissed him twice as many times as Warne or McGrath. We're sorry you decided to stick Ellen DeGeneres at number three instead of Ian Bell. And on the subject of talk show hosts, we're sorry Piers Morgan is the only Brit who actually wants to bat against Mitchell Johnson (http://www.news.com.au/national/british-cnn-host-piers-morgan-says-hed-love-to-face-mitchell-johnson/story-e6frfkp9-1226778086515).

http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/8834/b0zj.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/854/b0zj.jpg/)
Which one is Joe and which one is Ellen?

We're sorry Stuart Broad's foot was too fragile to deal with one of Mitch's gentle yorkers. We're sorry he keeps bowling nasty bouncers at you, as though you aren't scared enough of him already.
We're sorry your keeper lost his good Prior form, and we're sorry about him missing all those stumping chances. He must feel pretty bad, watching Brad Haddin score so many runs. Soooo many runs.
We're sorry your captain can't cover his stumps, and we're sorry his opening partner's helmet looks like a duck. The irony.

http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/9429/brd8.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/849/brd8.jpg/)
Michael Carberry’s helmet is a metaphorical representation of Alastair Cook’s performance in Perth

Our bowlers have been hotter than the sun over Perth. Sorry about that. And sorry about the weather. The rain can't save you down here.
We're sorry our captain wins every toss, and we're sorry he has the guts to go for wickets while Alastair Cook hangs back. We're sorry Clarkey bats like a demon, but we couldn't stop him if we tried.
We're sorry David Warner generates more power than your nation's whole energy grid, and we're sorry your bowlers are so toothless. Heck, even Shane Watson got a century the other day.

We're sorry about all the pain you've suffered since that very first day in Brisbane. But most of all, we're sorry about the pain that's still to come.
Keep your chin up England. It'll all be over on January 7.
Love,
Australia

P.S. We're not sorry.

Cricket is a great game, the better side won, we should not be too over the top in our celebrations. No matter how smug & full of them selves the opposition may be. I wonder how many knighthoods will come out of this test for the Australian side? Hang on, we're not into that any more. Anyway , good luck England in the remaining 2 tests, & just remember, we know how you feel, right now. Something for the future. [I wonder if Ellen has English Grandparents?]:D Bob

Oh, yes I can appreciate that someone would find the concept of having won the first 3 matches of a five match series (meaning that the series overall has been won) confusing.

I genuinely have no interest in cricket - as said dull and boring.

When I was working someone would get into the lift and just assume everyone was interested in the cricket - how was the game? they would ask and got all upset when I replied - I couldn't give a toss - cricket nerds just assume that most people are interested when in reality very often the opposite is the case.

I for one agree the WACA should stay with some refurbishment, but it is not about cricket anymore it is about profit and cramming as many people as possible into a space in uncomfortable crowded seating. It will be a shame to see the grassed hill areas go. Look at Adelaide Oval, to be honest they have completely stuffed that now. Of course it has more capacity but has lost its character.

I'm not sure if they claim to have invented Royal Tennis (which they play at the Lords Cricket Ground), but they are not doing too well at that either.

A Tasmanian called Robert Fahey won the world title in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012.

Not too sure where you get your stats from Bob but in terms of series wins in historical terms it's a pretty even match I'd say, and I'm sure you are aware that on recent form, let say over the last decade, England appear to have the edge (to put it mildly).

In my book part a big part of winning is how it's done. Doing so graciously says a lot about ones character. There's nowt worse than a bad winner and those types of comments just smack of having a bit of a chip on the old shoulder ;)

You obviously didn't watch the games played in England. Good sports, those English. They can dish it out, but can definitely not take it. The impossible has happened, Ian Botham admits the Aus. cricket side were just too good! However, I don't subscribe to the uproar in the Engilsh press about mass sackings in the England side. The English could go on to win the next test, especially if Aus. get complacent. The next test will be a good indication of the character of both sides. Let's hope the Aussies have developed a hard edge to their game, & go for the kill. Only then can we say they are on the way back. It would not surprise me to see England fight back, this next test could be the best of this series. Let's hope so, Bob
