Reminds me of a story from the latest war in iraq - you know the one, before the official 'cessation of hostilities'.
The Yanks had fired upon a British helicopter. Naturally, the Brits responded with something to the effect of 'Cease fire, we are British".
The Americans apologised, saying they thought they were firing upon Iraqis. The response ?
"When was the last time you saw an Iraqi f***ing helicopter ?"

 being way out in hicksville , we where on generator power for the last ten years, which meant 240 volt for 6-7 hours per day, mainly at nite with the occasional long run on w/e's, with 12 volt lighting inbetween! As well as generating power the genny also generated a fair amount of engine noise(single cyl diesel running@3000 rpm)so the peace and quiet is finally getting here!and no more running out in the cold and rain to fill er up or turn it off at nites end!!!!!!yippee!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif 8)

A lot of us look like we know each other really well, but have never met.
Just that we have been here for a long time and seen the site grow to where it is today, so we treat everyone like a big family( sob sob moment  )
I had the chance to meet up with two members when I was down south and will be meeting up with some others the next time I take my Disco down.
If I am ever heading past somewhere I know a member is from I will always try and catch up.

Yes we are a long way from everyone up here but it is splendid isolation.
After being up here for a year I guess I am starting to take it for granted.
My son and family are up here from Perth and over the weekend we went on a drive to Barred Creek, some 40km north of Broome, and part of the trip is over claypan and although I have done trip a number of times before this was the first time I had seen water laying on the surface.
Well as it was my first time offroad with the Disco I was a little aprehensive as we entered the first water / mud run and had to engage low range, I had previously let the tyres down to cater for the beach, the mud was flying around us but no real surprise we got through OK.
There was quite a breeze blowing at the creek so we did not stay long and headed home after about 40 minutes, later that evening I was telling them how sorry I was the trip was not as good as I had hoped and was told by them they thought it was great 4Wdriving in the outback and they had had a great time.
Sometimes we do not realise how fortunate we are.
By the way what do you drop you tyres down to when going off road on sand, I dropped mine to 24 front and 28 rear.
regards
harry

Sounds like great Fun Harry.
Have only pasted through Broome once 13 years ago, but will be making a point of getting up there soon.
Heading for point smith next long weekend, spend it fishing and exploreing the isolated beaches, will be great fun.
I let the tyre down depending on the conditions.
Down south I use to go down to 25 PSI for the rocky area's and this also worked well in the mud down there too, but a lot differant up here.
Sand and beach are a bit differant, around Hedland here I have only dropped the tyre once, down to 20PSI to make it up a soft hill.
Most of the time I drive straight onto the beach and havnt had a problem yet,
harryw
17th May 2004, 09:48 PM
Thanks for that.
We intend going to Port Smith but so far we have only got as far as Barn Hill, some 20 k's less than Port Smith.
People I work with either rate Port Smith or Barn Hill, for me Barn Hill is good the camp site is almost on the beach so a walk is the way to go.
Downside is not a lot of opportunity for beach driving but the beaches are reminiscent of Cape Levique, white sand and pindan cliffs.
Let me know how you go at Port Smith, maybe next time we could arrange to meet at one or the other when you go again.
regards
harry

Will work out something for the future so we can meet up somewhere between here and there.

Hmm
You wouldn't know about the Bald Faced Stag Hotel in Leichhardt then. Established in 1830, home of Toohey's.
And seeing that the Cascade brewery is in South Hobart, not really in Hobart at all, I'm going to include the Hahn/James Squire brewery in Camperdown which is only a short walk away. That's where they made Hahn Ice, Hahn Premium, Hahn Premium Light, and the entire range of James Squire Beers.
And Leichhardt is only a suburb.
Gotta do better than that!

Anyone remember the series of XXXX ads a few years back.
I'm thinking of the one with the couple of fellas at an outback pub loading up the ute with beer. The ute's stacked about twelve feet high with slabs. The barman says, 'will there be anything else, boys?'. One of the guys says, 'Oh, and a couple of bottles of sweet sherry for the ladies.' These are put in the back and the axles start to collapse. The other fella says, 'better forget the sweet sherry.'
Cheers
Simon.
