Seats and Bull Bar, opinions required.

I guys haven't been that active on here this year (been a bad year), glad it's over. Anyways.......

Looking at a couple more mods, seating and Bull Bar.

Front seats are driving me nuts, so uncomfortable and on the long jaunts I can't put it back for a nap on the side of the road. :(

Any good comfy options, leather would be nice.
I have seen those Scheelman (spelling????) but there $1,800ish each and not even leather. Any other options out there?

Bull Bar, I am planning on going the tubular style front bar with the single loop in the middle forgot the brand, Mulgo sells them. But now I'm thinking full protection with ARB after seeing the Roo strike damage from a fellow member on here.

What's your opinions on the tubular style bars do they offer enough protection or should I go the ARB option?

The only problem with the ARB bar is it sits close to the lights and I have the Mulgo light grills fitted, I think they won't work with the ARB bar, and I don't really want to remove them. Any solutions here?

(Mulgo Daniel, if your reading this don't worry I have another buyer for the front bar for you, just incase I opt the other way).

Bullbar, very handy mount antennas and lights but the primary reason for me is the protection to the front of the vehicle from animal strike, heavier vegetation and supermarket trolleys and careless drivers backing into to you.

If you have another reason for fitting a bullbar that is more important to you than the protection they offer, then you may want to consider something other than the steel ARB style of bar. That is something only you know.

The seats are mounted via a very easily accessible and simple method. If you want to change them, go to an all makes wrecker with some measurements and a diagram of the box you will have to mount them to and have a look around. Someone else might be able to help but I suspect that you may need an engineer's certificate for the modification. If your dealing with Mulgo I think he will be able to advise you about the need for a certificate.

The one thing that Landrover seats have is a removable seat cushion which allows access to the space under the seat, I don't know of other seats have this feature. You may want to keep that in mind.

these are from an E36 bmw, arrived yesterday and just fitted in place of the sports seats i fitted a few years back, these are leather, the passenger seat is on hinges so i can get to the battery, the drivers seat is bolted down solid but slides back heaps to allow access under seat and i have a hinged side panel for access to the compressor, the centre cubby is not in the photo

As said, depends what you want it for.
Great approach angle and a place for a winch?
Tubular.
Stopping skip from forcing you to remove him from your radiator support panel?
Full steel ARB bar (or TJM) ;)
As for seats, no idea sorry.

I am surprised that you find the seats that uncomfortable. I don't mind them. i thought long and hard about fitting the $5000 Recaros when I bought my 90. They do look good. They are much cheaper from the UK but I think postage would be prohibitively expensive.

Hey dude,

In reference to the bullbar question there's obviously ten million threads on here about it where everyone vents their opinion, what I would say is the ARB/Tjm option.
Why? Well f you're worried about protection then if you go tubular and you do get some damage you'll be kicking yourself. I've had the ARB option on 2 defenders now and I can attest to their strength. The photo below is my old 110 after being smashed into a lowlux. Believe it or not but my engine was still running and the intercooler was perfect. So much so i pulled it out and used it in my brothers disco.
The accident had the lux at 80kmh and my rig at about 40kmh head-on collision. Prior to that I'd had plenty oflow scale dings and bumps and it was fine.

Obviously I've never had a tubular one but that's my piece on that. I think leather is over rated too. It gets super hot, sticks to your sunburn, and if your air on dies you'll regret it hard. Good firm fabric ones are legit.

STOP!!!!! Bugger the seats is that an auto transmission I see? I want one! ( nice seats)

Ok cheers for your opinions guys, looks like I'll sway towards the ARB bar.

Seats, I might speak to a motor trimmer see what they can do, just need a solution to make the seat recline. Maybe someone with an engineer brain can help out there :)

I do to many miles to be bothered with a manual:D
Auto is highly reccomended and a cheap and easy conversion if your handy with the tools.
Go for the full bar to and you can add scrub bars down the track if required

I have scheelman,s and arb bar. The seats do the job on the long haul! Recently went through a mob of goats, middle of the night 150k,s from anywhere. A goats head went in between the bar and top rail some panel damage was sustained to the side of the vehicle, however the main thing was I was able to keep going. For me that is deemed fit for purpose.:D

I'd love an auto, but I don't think that cheap or easy for the Puma 2.2 what auto would mate up? I spoke with Davis Performance Landies some time ago and he said you lose a lot of power when converting to auto?????
If there is an option out there I'm open to it.

A TDV6 and it's auto would be the go. Wonder what that engine and gearbox would set you back.

redrovertdi - you got any photos how you attached passenger and driver these seats? i picked up a pair of these exact seats few weeks back for my defender just need to find time to fit. sat them in place couple of weeks ago and looks like will require only small modification to fit. would like to get the hinge on passenger seat too. i've got aftermarket seats in already.

Babs - wouldn't get too excited about the BMW seats, i've got an auto defender too and for them to be suitable you'll need a small steering wheel and i doubt the seating position would be at all suitable for a manual. they sit higher than standard defender seats, and to depress the clutch to the floor i reckon you'd have to be sitting quite close to the steering wheel. again - mine is an auto, but i reckon you'd need to consider that before you go spend any money. yes the autos are great too.
