I have decided that it will be a D4 - not a LC200 Series. Advantages/disadvantages of either of the above other than maybe longer warranty period. Both seem similar advertised pricing.

Really depends on what you want. Some SE's are spec'd up, close to HSE levels.
When I bought mine I was originally going to buy a HSE, but a dealer had a SE with quite a few additional features and an e-diff. So I went for the SE with e-diff because in my case that was more important then the additional features the HSE had on offer.
The main thing is they are both beautiful cars, I think you made the right choice over a LC 200, I have owned a one and my D4 is by far a better car (for me at least).
Good luck.

Thanks Tony. As soon as the Christmas crazies are over I will doing some serious looking/negotiating. I believe that the HSE has a full sun roof? If so, I am less inclined as the pooches will be in the back & the extra sun/heat coming through may be an issue. I have heard good reports re Melb City LR & they have a few of each to do some haggling over when business is a bit quiet for them & others in the New Year. ;)

No probs Mr Smokey.
I have bought a few Landies from MLR, I have always found them good to deal with.
Cheers

For me the reliability of the car is more important than the bling. An SE is a very very comfortable vehicle. I would go with whatever is the youngest, lowest km's and best maintained. If you can find an HSE that ticks those boxes and is in your budget then of course it's a no brainer but otherwise I am pretty confident you will be very happy in a reliable SE.

I believe (hopefully correct) that the TDV6 D4 (2.7) though classed as the base model is the equivalent to the D3 SE model.
Me and the family own the D4 2.7 (with 7 seats and e-diff) and frigging love it. cant fault it. At no stage have I wished for more luxury. Again and this is just my opinion, I'd go for the best price, lowest KLM's and newest car possible.

Compliments of the Season to all out there.
Gotta agree with the reliability issue. So lower age/Klms will be the key but, bling is also noice ;)
'specially after many, many years of vehicles dictated by kids, pay packet, practical work requirements etc etc.
All 3ltr motors now so the difference is more in the single/twin turbos I think. Towing just under 3000kg I would prefer to "over engineer" the pram to what will be at the tail end. Won't be doing any bush bashing (yes, a waste of an excellent 4wd).
Interestingly, I spoke with a new D4 owner the other day and his only complaint was getting used to no gear stick :)

Well, it's done. Picked up Santorini black 2013 disco SE with "black pack" on Monday. Gotta agree about the no gear stick and I still grab for the ignition keys.
