300tdi vacum pump 70,000 now leaking

hi all was getting ready to head to the sunshine coast was doing a engine check and found my vacuum pump is leaking put a new one and booster in
70,000 ks ago seems just a few drips from front welch plug and around the gasket anyone know how long before it can become a major leak got 1800ks of highway driving to do no towing merry xmas all and thanks in advance

Easy fix remove it drill out the rivets and re assemble with bolts and nuts;)

As Rangieman says the rivets replacement is an easy job and will sort that bit out. As for the small welsh plug (assuming you mean the one on your vacuum pump) mine has been weeping ever so slightly for about 30,000km now, nothing really to speak of. I put a bit of Sikaflex type stuff in front of it but that hasn't changed things much. At least it hasn't blown out.

If its leaking it will be worn inside even if you do the bolt trick. It should last your trip though.

Worth checking your Servo unit for cracks/leaks. I went through 2 vac pumps in short periods and it turned out that there was a small crack in the servo unit. Maybe putting extra pressure on the brake system to perform? could be just coincidence, or faulty units etc, but worth a check.

Only a few weeks ago I took mine off, drilled the rivets out, resealed with RTV silicone and put back together with bolts. Very very easy.

Mine had been leaking for about a year. :angel:

Edit: I also used 2 gaskets.

LR advised at some point fitting a thicker gasket between the pump and crankcase to reduce the stresses on the pump during running, as this was apparently leading to premature failures.
