Health and Beauty p38 Style!

Had a green foot spa in my P38 yesterday. Driving through Miami (Qld) and thought the truck that just passed me smelled a bit funny. Not funny after he was long gone and the smell wasn't. Put my thonged foot onto the foot rest to stretch out and got a warm sensation. Warm and wet. Now reading about this and actually having it happen are two different things. Pulled into a side street and topped up the reservoir (about 500ml) and nursed it home on the highway for about 1/2 an hour. Didn't use any more fluid or overheat, but the fumes coming out of the vents were not great. Lucky it was only about 24 degrees C and the sun was going down. Good ol' rangey.
So I have been reading about a heater matrix bypass, as I don't envisage using the heater any time soon (read going back south). The jury is hung, some say it affects the cooling capacity of the engine, while others say they are happy not to have the heat in their cabins because it is bypassed in the engine bay. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My Classic dthe surgery not long after buying it. - Pipes coming through the firewall were rotten. Matrix joins were also leaking onto the floor, under the carpet etc.

Never needed the heater since, though a couple of times it would have been nice. Generally, I get enough heat coming through the floor/firewall. :eek:

One less potential leak to worry about. :D

Thought I'd have a crack at the bypass. So far so good. 30degrees outside today and he's running fine. A little cooler at slower temperatures, and a tiny bit warmer up long hills. Still hasn't gone past top dead centre on the gauge. Also, cabin temp is a tad cooler. So far so good. :)

I bypassed my heater years ago. I live in Townsville and get out in the bushy low range tracks all the time. My gauge sits at half and never moves. You will be fine!

Thanks Keithy. I do love the beasty, so any mods are always a bit iffy. Good to know its not going to have a heart attack because of the bypass.:D
