I'm in Brisbane looking for an Australian Army Camo tarp for a 110 Army Land Rover. I've been to a few upholsterers but they all want to cut corners. I want all the original detail pieces - ropes, buckles etc. Does anyone know of somewhere in Brisbane that can help?
I want to keep the vehicle as original as possible.
Thanks guys.
Gav

G'Day mate.
I can sorta help you.
As you may have discovered, the correct canopies are not available now and for a few years yet due to contracts between the OE Suppliers and defence.
The correct canvas is available from 2 suppliers in Australia.
I will PM you the contact details of a hobby canopy maker that does exceptional work with all the correct ropes, straps and buckles.
He travels a bit and does canvas work to satisfy the restoration market when at home.
What this means is: he does great work for reasonable money, but you may have to wait a couple of months.
The Engineers creed: Fast, Good or cheap- Pick 2.

Thank you very much for your help a couple of months is nothing to wait for a good job. I had my misses in the Landy with me when there was an enormous bang and the whole front of the tarp was ripped from the wind screen at 100kms. Thanks again will send you some photos when it's done.

Wow, that would have been exciting!
Many vehicles seem to have had canopies 'thrown on' prior to sale.
I advise everyone to assemble their canopies as part of the pre-drive checks.
I will be doing a series of how-to videos on youtube showing how to do this.
When you say rip, do you mean the canvas tore leaving the front strip of reinforcement or just pulled out?
If it hasn't torn, just loosen the straps under the cab roof, undo the canopy clamps at the top of the windscreen, tighten the nuts a couple of turns and reclamp the canopy.
Retension the straps and give it a bit of push and pull to see if it is more secure.
I hope this helps.

guys i manufacture reproduction military and civvy land rover hoods and i only use the correct original fittings and ropes.
However, i am in the UK and am relocating my business back to AUS in DEC this year 2014.
I make series i, II, III, 101FC Scammel, DAF, Militant, 90, 110 and custom hoods.

My business is called Red Earth Valley and i'd be happy to manufacture hoods and send them over should you struggle to get them made there / or have to wait months?!!
My family live in bris so delivery / contents issues shouldn't be a problem. I'll just be sending tent and camping gear home etc.

not sure if i'm allowed to put my email on here as i'm new but you can PM me or use redearthvalley@yahoo.com

We do all the military shows here with a good collection of running british and russian wheeled, armoured and tracked vehicles / tanks etc.

I'm hoping there is a military vehicle enthusiast show in east aus!! If not i'm damn well starting one!
Cheers

G'Day Matt.
Welcome to AULRO.
As with most Fora, the done thing before advertising products or services is to pay the, very reasonable, vendor registration fee.
Looking forward to catching up when you get here.
The Jeep club is quite active in SEQ and even allows us Rover driver to join.
I wouldn't say the scene is vibrant but there are 4-5 events /year including a swim in.

For all who are chasing canopies and other canvas bits including seat covers.
Robco products, the OEM supplier to defence, have begun supply to the retail market of all products fitted to the Perenties.
They only work to their product numbers, so you will be met with a blank stare if you order an RFSV driving light cover.
I am compiling a list of product numbers from the RPS and will post when it is available on buymilitaryvehicles.com.

There's a fellow selling those on ebay.
Good price too I'm told.

Restless Rover also sells them.

I see Bartletts in Ballarat do them for a reasonable price.
Their quality is good as my dad had one of their annex's for his caravan.

Cheers, Mick.
